Generating aspiration and so on is as before. In order to generate those virtuous dharmas that have not yet arisen, generating aspiration and so on is as before. In order for those virtuous dharmas that have arisen to abide, and to increase further (752), and not to decline, and not to be exhausted, generating aspiration and so on is as before. Wise and steadfast. What are called sinful and non-virtuous dharmas are the opposing factors to discipline, meditative concentration, and wisdom. The opposing factors to discipline are the deterioration of discipline and the dharmas that cause discipline to deteriorate. The opposing factors to meditative concentration are those that distract the mind and cause meditative concentration to decline. The opposing factors to wisdom are the deterioration of views and the dharmas that obscure reality by holding views as supreme. Proper attention is: in order to abandon non-virtuous dharmas, generating aspiration, striving, exerting effort, holding the mind firmly, and abiding, this is the first right abandonment. Furthermore, what are called non-virtuous dharmas are attachment due to desire, hatred due to anger, and delusion due to ignorance, meaning arising from what cause. Proper attention is: pacifying desire with impurity, hatred with loving-kindness, and ignorance with dependent origination. Abandoning them by discriminating those afflictions separately, what is abandoned does not arise again, this is the second right abandonment. In order to generate those virtuous dharmas that have not yet arisen, generating aspiration, striving, exerting effort, and firmly establishing the mind, this refers to generating aspiration for the immeasurable virtuous dharmas to be practiced, and practicing them with firm mental focus, this is the root of all virtuous roots, this is the third right abandonment. In order for the virtuous dharmas that have arisen to abide, not to decline, and not to be exhausted, dedicating all virtuous roots to enlightenment. Why is that? Because dedicating all virtuous roots to omniscience without dwelling in the three realms, there is nothing that will exhaust them, this is the fourth right abandonment. Then, in the great stage of the path of accumulation, the nature of meditative concentration, the miraculous

The four bases of miraculous powers should be cultivated. Bhadramati asked: "World Honored One, how should the four bases of miraculous powers be viewed?" The World Honored One said: "Bhadramati, there are four paths of a Bodhisattva. What are the four? The base of miraculous power of aspiration (འདུན་པའི་ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན་) with the activity of abandoning (spong ba'i 'du byed), the base of miraculous power of diligence (བརྩོན་འགྲུས་ཀྱི་ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན་) with the activity of abandoning, the base of miraculous power of mind (སེམས་ཀྱི་ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན་) with the activity of abandoning, and the base of miraculous power of investigation (སྤྱོད་པའི་ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན་) with the activity of abandoning. Bhadramati, in that, all dharmas are not established anywhere, like an illusion; nowhere is anything perceived, and being free from grasping, one is not frightened by all dharmas. Without being frightened, joy, delight, and desire arise, this is the concentration of aspiration. Bhadramati, with the aspiration of single-pointed faith, abandoning the diligence of all worldly dharmas, not being overcome by all laziness, and possessing uninterrupted diligence, this is the concentration of diligence. Bhadramati, possessing uninterrupted effort, the mind is not established anywhere and is not perceived; the nature of the mind is clear light, and focusing the mind on that, this is the concentration of mind. Bhadramati, possessing the concentration of single-pointedness, in all times of going, walking, sitting, and lying down (༧༥༥), one does not deviate from concentration in conduct, this is the concentration of investigation. Furthermore, Bhadramati, why is it called the base of miraculous power? Because that concentration abandons all wrong dharmas, accomplishes virtuous dharmas, reaches the correct state, and is able to proceed, therefore the nature of concentration is called the base of miraculous power. The liberation aspect of the small accumulation path is the special object of faith in the Three Jewels, and the special faith that arises to distinguish all dharmas. The liberation aspect of the middle path is the joy and diligence that arise with the six perfections as the object.
