Emptiness is taught to purify the habitual tendencies of phenomena, but clinging to emptiness is like turning medicine into poison. Your minds are only at that level and cannot truly reach emptiness. Āryadeva said: 'The distinctions of virtue and non-virtue are characterized by the cessation of continuity. The Buddhas teach emptiness, not something else.' So, in your instructions, there are statements about examining through the three times, examining whether phenomena exist or not, and examining through one and many. If it ultimately becomes analytical meditation, that is not right. The analysis of analytical meditators is measured by scriptures and reasoning. But our way is to examine with discriminating wisdom only on the basis of not straying from the natural state. Therefore, compared to abiding meditation, there is no other change at all. This way of observing is what the great Sārahā said: 'In this way, you must not be confused, you must understand yourself. Not dust, not free from dust, not even mind. Those things originally have no attachment. It is just a metaphorical statement.' And 'From where does it arise, where does it cease? Where does it dwell, how does it change, it is not clearly known.' And 'The arising of phenomena is as peaceful as the sky, after abandoning phenomena, what will arise? Originally it is the nature of no arising, today it is realized by the instructions of Lama Gonpo.' Śamatha (止,奢摩他,止,平静) is characterized by one-pointedness of mind, therefore it is called one-pointed yoga. Some people argue only about the name, thinking that one-pointed yoga is not clearly explained. But it is not that other treatises do not explain it. The venerable Jñānakīrti said: 'If śamatha arises with the characteristic of one-pointedness of mind,' and the perfectly complete Buddha also said in the Samādhirāja Sūtra: 'Those who take samādhi as their essence, what is joy? That is, for the sake of accomplishing all the bliss of happiness and joy, and one-pointedness of mind.' And 'What is the establishment of samādhi? That is, being skilled in the arising and ceasing of mind and mental factors, and one-pointedness of mind.' Therefore, one-pointedness is clearly explained in śamatha itself. Realizing the nature of freedom from elaboration, Second, the guidance of liberation in confusion. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gaining confidence. If, at the moment of liberation, one recognizes the flaw of illusion, this is called 'the inversion between illusion and liberation,' which is the realization of the nature of non-duality. At the moment any illusion arises, recognizing that it itself is without root or basis is called 'gaining confidence in liberation at the moment of illusion.' From the moment of recognizing the rootlessness and baselessness, one can no longer find any nature of illusion, which is called 'recognizing the flaw of illusion at the moment of liberation.' Contemplating that rootless nature is the supreme state of obtaining the guru's oral instructions. Proclaim to those who are deluded that the nature of samsara is the very nature of the mind, so that they may understand. As it is said in the Great Vehicle Sutra, the *Ārya Ākāśagarbha Sūtra* (Holy Treasury of Space Sutra): 'Son of good family, look at how profound dependent origination is! Although the fruit arises from the cause, the nature of the fruit does not change; without a cause, the fruit does not arise either.' Thus, the natural law of the fruit manifestly arising from cause and condition, both of these are immovable and without an agent. Anyone who has such an understanding will be liberated. Why? Because the Bhagavan (Blessed One) also said that complete affliction is complete purification.' It is not that complete purification is achieved by eliminating complete affliction, but that the very nature of complete affliction is complete purification. For example, complete affliction and complete purification, these are merely names. As it is said in the *Ārya Sarvadharma Apratihatodaya Sūtra* (Holy Sutra of the Unobstructed Arising of All Dharmas): 'Venerable one, how do you understand desire?' He replied, 'Son of a householder, desire is understood as complete affliction.' He asked, 'Venerable one, is desire then inside? Or is it outside?' He replied, 'Desire is neither inside nor outside.' He asked, 'Venerable one, if desire is neither inside nor outside, then it is also not in the east, south, west, north, above, below, or in any direction. If that is the case, then it is unborn. If it is unborn, then where is there affliction or purification?' The great accomplished master Sarahha clearly stated: 'Whatever is seen in front, behind, or in the ten directions, that is it itself. Today, protector, now illusion is cut off. Now I will not ask anyone.' In this way, he clearly elucidated the realization of the true nature of all phenomena. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
