《入中论》(dbu ma 'jug pa)中也说:'凡夫(so so skye bo)被概念所束缚,无概念的瑜伽士才能解脱。'

Ah! The followers of your teachings, even without attaining the actual state of Samadhi (bsam gtan dngos gzhi), can, like grass untouched by demons, turn away from Samsara (srid pa). This explains that Vipassanā (lhag mthong) can arise even without relying on actual Samadhi. Some who are known as scholars, but have become blind to the ultimate truth (don dam pa), believe that without prior analysis of scripture (lung) and reasoning (rigs), one cannot understand the nature of emptiness (stong nyid). Therefore, one must first engage in deep analysis of scripture and reasoning. However, in the 'Two Examinations' (brtag gnyis), it says: 'This (referring to the arising of Vipassanā) is for the sake of the sequence of blessings, the omniscient (kun mkhyen) wisdom is like that.' Or: 'Not spoken by others, the co-emergent (lhan cig skyes) wisdom, cannot be found anywhere, it can only be known by relying on the kindness of the Guru and one's own merit.' This mainly explains that realization comes primarily through the blessings of the holy Guru. Moreover, in most of the Anuttarayoga Tantra (bla med) texts, it is said that Vipassanā arises from the power of the winds (rlung) and mind (sems) entering the central channel (dbu ma), and it is not mentioned anywhere that it is realized through the analysis of scripture and reasoning. In the Lamdre (mdo lam) also, it is mentioned that merely by the rays of light of the Tathagata (de bzhin gshegs pa) touching one, or like Sadaprarudita (rtag tu ngu), merely by contemplating the 'Noble Dharma' (chos 'phags) and the 'Prajnaparamita' (shes phyin), or like Shariputra (shA ri'i bu), merely by hearing one verse once, one sees the truth, and so on. Furthermore, all contemplation other than Shamatha (zhi gnas) is only a companion to conceptual thought (rtog pa). Therefore, all those who are skilled in the conventional truth (kun rdzob) and the ultimate truth agree that conceptual thought cannot establish non-conceptual thought. Therefore, in order to analyze the cause of the arising of Vipassanā with the wisdom of discriminating awareness, it is first necessary to have generated a signless (mtshan ma med pa) Shamatha. Therefore, Shantideva (zhi ba lha) said: 'Through Vipassanā that is fully endowed with Shamatha, one knows that the afflictions are completely destroyed, therefore one should first seek Shamatha.' The Madhyamakavatara (dbu ma 'jug pa) also says: 'Ordinary beings (so so skye bo) are bound by conceptual thought, yogis who are non-conceptual will be liberated.' The texts of Jigme Drakpa ('jigs bral zla ba grags pa) say that the analysis of scripture and reasoning is a prerequisite, but this is only for the sake of generating non-conceptual, signless Shamatha. As it is said in the sutras: 'Whatever are the inverted concepts, are the result of discrimination.' If one thinks that the generation of signless Shamatha does not require scripture and reasoning, that is not correct. Because, if there is no object of knowledge (shes bya), then clear awareness (shes pa) is easily attained, thus have the Buddhas (sangs rgyas) said. If there is no object of knowledge, awareness will be obstructed and established, therefore one must first refute the object of knowledge. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

gsungspas said, considering that if the knowable (ཤེས་བྱ་, object) is refuted, then the wisdom of the knower (ཤེས་བྱེད་, subjective cognition) is easier to refute, therefore, first conduct the analysis of scriptural authority and reasoning. In order to seek the quiescence (ཞི་གནས་, calm abiding) without characteristics, one should learn to place the mind evenly without modification through hundreds of efforts. The Samadhiraja Sutra says: 'The wise know the conditioned and the unconditioned, all notions of characteristics are completely destroyed, abiding in the absence of characteristics, then one will fully understand that all dharmas are empty.' Jowo's (ཇོ་བོ།, Lord) 'Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment' says: 'Through scripture and reason, determine that all dharmas are unborn and without self-nature, then cultivate non-conceptualization. Having cultivated in this way, gradually obtain warmth and so on, and finally obtain great joy and so on, attaining Buddhahood will not be long.' It is said: 'If the limbs of quiescence are deficient, even if one strives to cultivate, even after thousands of years, samadhi will not be achieved.' Therefore, have those who only want to realize emptiness through the analysis of scripture and reason become confused about the meaning of certainty? Please contemplate! The quiescence mentioned in the Madhyamaka does not necessarily require prior analysis of scripture and reason, because in the verse of the Bodhicaryavatara it says: 'It can also manifest when the world is not destroyed.' Furthermore, compared to those who want to enter insight (ལྷག་མཐོང་, vipassana) through the gate of quiescence with characteristics, this method is much deeper. The great scholar (སློབ་དཔོན།) Bodhibhadra said in the chapter on samadhi: 'Therefore, compared to relying on quiescence with characteristics, it is more praiseworthy to generate insight with the aim of quiescence without characteristics, because it makes abiding stable, and quiescence itself can completely prevent and eliminate afflictions, and is a cause that is in accordance with the result.' Therefore, through the analysis of individual self-awareness wisdom and quiescence without characteristics, one can realize insight with characteristics, and when insight is realized, insight can also destroy these two. The great scholar Bodhibhadra once said: 'Is it possible to generate insight without first having quiescence with characteristics?' 'It is possible, because from quiescence without characteristics and individual self-awareness wisdom, one can generate insight without characteristics, that is, non-conceptual wisdom.' Just as Arya Kasyapa asked: 'Two pieces of wood rubbed together produce fire.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
