It is only a slight difference that makes the experience vast and unified, makes freedom from elaboration vast, and even distinguishes non-meditation. Although the vastness and smallness are said to be slightly different, there is no contradiction. How to determine the limbs of ascertainment? Like the twelve limbs, one-pointedness is also the same. One-pointedness is the essence of the path of joining. It is in accordance with the part of ascertainment that distinguishes each separately without mixing. For each of these, there are also distinctions of small, medium, and large, just as the path of joining is divided into four, three, and twelve limbs. Here too, one-pointedness itself is divided into four, three, and twelve yogas. The way one-pointedness combines with warmth is like the appearance of smoke as a sign of fire. The first experience is gaining the warmth of bliss, clarity, and non-thought in the mind. The way freedom from elaboration combines with the peak is like the non-decline of merit upon gaining the peak. Reciting 'Everything arises from the unborn' and transforming it into what the sutra says: 'Emptiness is the basis, place, and support of all phenomena,' that is the meaning. The way patience combines with the yoga of one taste is that all phenomena such as form gather and abide, and one does not accept or reject appearances, and is not moved by conditions, which is called gaining patience. The way non-meditation combines with the supreme dharma is that because of the extreme perfection of samadhi, the mind abides completely, and at that time, it is separated from clinging to all measurements. For the discriminating mind of ordinary beings, abiding in this, because there is nothing higher than this, it is called the supreme dharma. Gyalwang Rinpoche said so. Through the four uncommon determinations, all four yogas are encompassed. One-pointedness is the precursor to the arising of non-discriminating wisdom, so it is warmth. Freedom from elaboration is having all uncontaminated merits, so it is the peak. One taste transforms all adverse conditions into aids and is able to endure, so it is patience. Non-meditation is the most supreme of all phenomena, both mundane and supramundane, so it is the supreme dharma. These four uncommon limbs of determination are also clearly recorded in the Ali Kali Great River Tantra, which is merely giving the name of the path that applies to all paths. Unachieved and achieved, and achieved also has small, medium, and large. The distinction of the four boundaries has been extensively explained by the perfectly enlightened one. The Ornament of the Sutras says: 'The grounds are also rightly called unachieved and achieved.' Starting from the path of accumulation and the path of joining.
