It's okay to not have it, but cherish the lineage instructions, and value the practice that doesn't waste time. When two or three gather, idle talk increases; When many gather, they only imitate each other. It's okay to not have it, but cherish Dharma-minded friends, and value the firmly established teachings. For those who hang signs and titles on their chests, Have a great capacity to see the nature of reality. It's okay to not have it, but like a louse and a finger, cherish the confidence to die with certainty. In times of happiness, one is the best practitioner; Once misfortune arrives, one becomes ordinary. It's okay to not have it, but cherish the equanimity to treat good and bad alike. Driven by conflict, they flee from the Dharma, Like squeezing sugarcane, they squeeze the Dharma for offerings. It's okay to not have it, but cherish the attendant who, driven by faith, obeys whatever is said. Fearing death, only for oneself, Practicing various merits of liberation. It's okay to not have it, but cherish the behavior of loving all beings like an only child. Speaking of impermanence and destruction, Yet always laying out the bed of eternal hope. It's okay to not have it, but cherish the renunciation that comes from seeing the nature of conditioned things. Relying on wealth, deception, and hypocritical pretense, Putting on a good appearance to seduce the minds of others. It's okay to not have it, but cherish taming one's own mind and benefiting others with the four means of attraction. This advice was given to the monk Samtenpa Sherab Palden. Great wealth is a distraction; abandoning wealth leads to solitude. Many friends lead to idle talk; staying alone leads to virtuous practice. Many activities are chains of bondage; entrusting activities leads to happiness. Speaking is the basis of suffering; restraining speech leads to faith in the Dharma. Clinging to the mind is the cause of distraction; releasing without wandering leads to liberation. The seer and the seen are poison; seeing thoroughly is correct view. Cutting off the six senses is leisure; that alone leads to praise. Meditating on emptiness as nothingness is a fault; knowing appearances leads to union. Knowing appearances as illusion is also inferior; the exhaustion of appearance and non-appearance is the Dharmadhatu. Striving for the benefit of the world is weakness; effortlessly accomplishing the goal is the nature of compassion. These are the ten states. This is the profound song of the path taken by the yogi Dorje Samdrub. Through the kindness of the glorious one, This land of Tibet Has been filled with protectors and accomplished ones. You are an unparalleled treasure of compassion. I pray to the Lord of Speech. May I receive the blessings equal to the father. I have no experiential realization, But I have the secret words to meet the accomplished father. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Singing with joyful delight, Relying wholeheartedly on the qualified master, With key-point-focused supplications, Fulfilling desires as wished, Why not enter this profound path? The glorious, inconceivable, intrinsic meaning, If not realized through self-awareness, Realization through external conditions is impossible, Therefore, seek the definitive master within. Whatever accomplishes all the perfections of samsara and nirvana, Does not move from the dharmadhatu dharmakaya. The great sound called Guru (Sanskrit: Guru, teacher), Buddha (Sanskrit: Buddha, awakened one), Does not originate from other than self-appearance. Knowing and what is to be known, one taste, Without having met one's own mind, One cannot encounter the dharmakaya, Therefore, dismantle fabrication and cultivate equipoise. If the illusion of mind's grasping is not measured against suchness, Then the inexpressible wisdom, Will be met as an old friend. If, from the clarity of resting the mind as it is, One seeks another emptiness, How can appearances and sounds arise as the guru? Upon whatever appears, rest freely. All forms are the play of the dharmakaya, And the dharmakaya itself is all forms, This great killing of recognizing as self, Is a false tale to most ordinary people. Spreading out upon suchness, When what is to be meditated upon and the meditator are lost, The phenomena of existence and the body of the holy guru, Are seen as a spectacle of equal taste. Alala, in the profound practice, Properly, without needing others, Emaho, I think it is good fortune! It is understood to be the accumulation of merit from lifetimes. This is the essence of the instruction showing that one's own mind and the holy guru are inseparable, blessed with vajra words, may it be auspicious! In the year of the Water Ox, at the time of reconciling the inharmonious Bird and Tiger divisions, From the region of Drogpa Rigang, due to seeing the snow mountain of the benefactor Gangpa Zangpo, Seeing the people pursuing worldly ways and the holy Dharma declining, I felt saddened and composed this whip of remembrance. The sun sets in the west, In the vast expanse of the clear blue sky, Beneath the floating and gathering white clouds, The snow peak seems to reach the sky, The glorious lord of wealth, Gangpa Zang. The sight of the Drog pasture's beautiful mountains, With a sense of sadness, I remembered my own nature. Therefore, I sing this song to encourage my own mind. By the power of merit accumulated in past lives, In this life, I have obtained this precious human body. Do not waste it, but be pure like a white lotus. One should constantly strive to accomplish the ultimate meaning. The outer four seasons pass… --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
