Without the tumor of craving greatness, What need is there for potent medicine? Cherishing the thought of benefiting others, Practicing the four supreme trainings. Expelling selfish desires from the heart, Not being an unfilial descendant who severs virtuous connections. Discriminating right from wrong with words of reason and scripture, Eliminating doubts about the truth with equanimity. Finding the truth in the unerring Dharma, Not being a scholar who engages in false and deceptive speech. Subduing afflictions in the state of self-awareness, Believing in karma and acting with discernment. Removing the stain of arrogance with renunciation, Not being a Dharma practitioner who is outwardly adorned but inwardly corrupt. The essence of the four Dharma lineages, Tempered and refined on the perilous path of practice. The oral instructions imparted are absorbed into the mindstream, Not being a scholar who only knows book learning. Killing the demon of attachment with mindfulness, Turning away the hailstorm of desirable objects from the face. Knowing the practice of non-attachment and non-clinging, Not being a great meditator who relies on false appearances. Finding protection in emptiness from within oneself, Sleeping in the state of abandoning self-grasping. Accomplishing all actions in the state of non-action, Not being an accomplished one who hopes for high praise. The Dharma that appears beautiful in the eyes of the world, Is exhausted by the greedy consumption of the arrogant. The Dharma that becomes the antidote to afflictions, Is the fortune of a genuine yogi like me. The essence of blessings, Is in the Kagyu lineage. If unwavering devotion is maintained, Will one be led to the state of Buddhahood? It arises purely from your compassion. Knowing the nine profound oral instructions, Not being confused in the practice, Will a rainbow body of purity be accomplished? It depends on the way of practice. From the depths of the heart, the reminder of death arises, Not being attached to the wealth of the three realms, Will the mind turn towards the Dharma? It depends on resolute determination. Without letting the mind become stiff and unyielding, Without committing actions that harm others, Will one enter the path of Dharma? It depends on whether arrogance is absent. In order to know the true nature of samsara, Without presenting unerring proofs, Will the wrong path be cleared? It depends on grounded practice. Love and compassion burst forth from within, Willingly accepting suffering, Will spontaneous benefit for others arise? It depends on being free from selfish desires. This was done at the request of the mantra holder Khyenrab Gyatso. Again, at the request of Nub's mantra holder Khyenrab Gyatso. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When actions are tiresome, when results are rushed, when one has not yet tired of oneself, when will one practice Dharma properly? When such doubts arise, Padma Karpo advises in conversation, composing this song of reminders. In central India, the sound is loud, the names of Jetsün Tilopa and Naropa are renowned. The Protector (Gönpo, referring to the Buddha) resides on the throne of twofold vision. At the feet of the incomparable great translator Marpa, this oral lineage, training the mind through practice. Therefore, the blessings are great, and the treasures of countless siddhas are opened. If you wish to attain Buddhahood in one lifetime, you too should join this practice lineage. What is the use of endless busyness? Rather, dedicate your life to meaningful Dharma practice. At the feet of Jetsün Rechungpa, Dawa Ö Ngön Dzongpa, Ling Repa, and Drogön Tsangpa, those who have mastered the nine vehicles of Dharma, all attain accomplishment from this sign of warmth. Therefore, you, the mantra holder of Nub, consult with your own mind, do not let this precious human body be meaningless, practice with one-pointedness! Keep the distractions of busyness far away, let the thieves of non-virtue naturally subside. In the thorn bushes of meditation, go to the realm of glorious Khachö Wangpo (Lord of the Sky-goers). The Three Roots (Guru, Yidam, Dakini) and dakinis gather there, the glorious Dharma protectors guard there. The comfortable forest is good there, if you can renounce this life, go there! There, even sentient beings of the animal realm, walk unimpeded on the land of the sky-goers. For those with self-awareness, the necessary things, the supreme and common accomplishments, are there. Thus he spoke. Praying for the protection of this life and the next, placing complete trust in a qualified guru, weary of the deceitful disciples of the degenerate age, this song of realization was sung from the great sacred site of Khar-chu. Those who are greedy when receiving offerings, do you think what you eat is the real Buddha? When your mind is stiff like a dead tree, even if you regret it, it will be too late. Those who are hypocritical and act against the Dharma, do you think acting in secret means you are innocent? When you sway in the non-dual sky, even if you regret it, it will be too late. Those seekers who crave enjoyment, do you think everything you do is the best? When the habits of bad indulgence are deeply ingrained, even if you regret it, it will be too late. Those who are full of suffering and stinginess, do you think what you accumulate is meaningful? When the Lord of Death --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
