Practice the entering and exiting breaths again and again. Generally, during sleep, if one can generate the four joys or four emptinesses that dissolve into the central channel, and if one can remain in the co-emergent or clear light, then the characteristics of the four emptinesses will fully manifest, and because of the long duration, one can ascertain them as they are. 19-365 Apart from that, even if similar four emptinesses can appear, because the duration is short, it is difficult to ascertain them until one has practiced extensively. If one cannot meditate on the clear light of deep sleep, then for the time being, one should hold onto the subtle clear light. As with daytime practice, when falling asleep, visualize oneself as Heruka Chakrasamvara (Tibetan: རང་བདེ་མཆོག་, literally: Self-Bliss Supreme), together with the parent deities, the Three Roots, and the Four Chakras. In the center of the heart chakra, visualize Chakrasamvara (Tibetan: འཁོར་ལོ་སྡོམ་པ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: samvara, Sanskrit Romanization: samvara, Chinese literal meaning: All Vows) white in color, embracing Vajrayogini in red, the form is full, very clear and radiant, and the light illuminates the entire body inside and out, clear and bright. Focus on this, and by falling asleep, even if one cannot ascertain all four emptinesses of sleep, one can ascertain them to some extent, and between waking up from deep sleep and starting to dream, the subtle and coarse appearances have not ceased to appear, the mind is clear and empty, appearing like a state of not having fallen asleep, this is the subtle clear light. Sometimes it appears mixed with dreams. At that time, focus the mind on the deity's form in the heart chakra, and single-mindedly maintain awareness, the clear light will appear stable. If sometimes deep sleep arises and the appearances and mind become unclear, do not consider it a fault, maintain the strength of awareness and persist, and perhaps one can grasp a little of the deep clear light. 19-366 If dreams arise due to the movement of the winds, then visualize the dream body as an illusory deity form, gradually dissolve it, and let it remain in the non-conceptual clear light as it is. When dreams begin to appear, practice entering and exiting breaths again and again as before. In the actual clear light at the end of the four emptinesses, there needs to be a non-appearance state in which all subtle and coarse appearances and thoughts are dissolved. In this subtle clear light, the non-appearance awakens, and the subtle and coarse appearances have not ceased to appear, therefore it is not the actual clear light of the four emptinesses, but it is the clear light of sleep. If one cannot meditate on the clear light of deep and subtle sleep, then for the time being, one can meditate on the clear light of experience, visualize oneself as Chakrasamvara and consort, in the center of the body, the central channel is like a crystal pillar, very pure and clear, and in the heart chakra within the central channel, visualize a white Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: hūṃ, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hūṃ) in the center of a lotus, very clear and radiant. Its light illuminates the inside of the body and all the environment, like the moonlight, everything becomes white and bright. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hold the mind and go to sleep. Each time you wake up, clarify in this way, and a clear experience like a form of light will arise, and that is the luminosity of experience. 19-367 By increasing the intensity of that awareness and maintaining it, subtle luminosity will quickly arise. By practicing that, the actual luminosity of sleep will arise. Nowadays, most of what is said to be 'grasping luminosity' seems to be merely the arising of virtuous activity in sleep, or just the arising of an experience of luminosity. Even some who have a good grasp are only experiencing subtle luminosity, not the actual luminosity of the four emptinesses. Therefore, it seems important to know the distinctions. Third, releasing (the luminosity). Although it is difficult to grasp thick luminosity, the way to release (it) is: As previously explained, in an empty place and in the heart, visualize the lama, supplicate, the light dissolves, visualize the five bright seed syllables. Then, visualize all appearances transforming into the mandala of the lama Akshobhya due to the light of Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hūṃ). Offer with limitless clouds of offerings emanated from the light of your own heart. Visualize all the objects of offering dissolving into light, dissolving into the Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hūṃ) in the heart, thereby transforming the place, becoming the form of the lama Vajradhara Akshobhya. Intensely supplicate to grasp the luminosity. On the moon seat at the heart of the lama, visualize a very dark, shimmering black drop, which is the vajra nature of the hearts of all the Tathāgatas. Visualize all arising thoughts dissolving into that black drop in the manner of five lights, and then focus and fall asleep without distraction, and you will grasp it. 19-368 If it is difficult to grasp subtle luminosity, then in the center of the heart chakra, visualize a moon seat, and in the moon tent, visualize the lama Vajrasattva Heruka, holding vajra and bell with consort, white and clear, whose nature is light, and a white Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hūṃ) at their heart. Focus on the light of that illuminating the entire inner and outer body, and you will grasp it. If it is difficult to grasp the luminosity of experience, then in the center of the wide and clear white channel of the central channel, visualize a sphere of light within a dharma source, the size of a hen's egg, clear like a crystal ball and blazing with light. Visualize all inner and outer images appearing clearly. Focus on visualizing its light illuminating the inner and outer body and all realms, and you will grasp it. Fourth, how to continuously cultivate the experience: Practice the four stages in sequence and mix day and night. As it says: Look at Mahāmudrā. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
