kYi chos 'du bas so|| || ༄། །rnam par dag pa'i le'u Now, I will explain the ninth chapter. Next, I will explain the chapter on supreme purity, as stated in the scriptures. The reason for teaching this chapter immediately after teaching the eighth chapter is that the generation stage of Heruka (本尊) and selflessness, if not purified by the three purities, will become a bondage. If purified by them, it will lead to liberation. Because purity is taught here, this chapter is called the 'Chapter on Purity'. From what does this arise? It arises from the summary statement 'abiding', because it teaches the supreme method of making the mind, which does not abide, abide. This has four aspects: the cause of purity, the nature of purity, the method of purity, and the necessity of purity. 15-684 First, the cause of purity: 'Venerable One, what is impurity?' etc., refers to all phenomena included in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases. Second, the nature of purity, which is divided into three types: the purity of ultimate reality (tathata), the purity of individual deities in conventional reality, and the purity of non-dual self-awareness. First, the purity of ultimate reality: 'Certainly, the purity of all things is said to be suchness,' etc., states that the nature of phenomena such as the aggregates is always pure because it is free from defilements, and is called suchness, which never changes. Second, the purity of conventional reality: 'From the outside, by distinguishing each one, the deities should be spoken of,' etc., means that by distinguishing each part of the aggregates, etc., the deities are purified into deities. As it says, 'The form aggregate is Vajra Mother,' etc., whatever binds the world, such as the five aggregates and six sense objects, will not bind but liberate when meditated upon as the body of a deity. Among these are the purity of the fifteen goddesses and the purity of Heruka. The purity of Heruka is: the sixteen hands are the sixteen emptinesses; 15-685 The four feet are the subduing of the four maras; the four means of gathering; the eight faces are the eight liberations. Here, the eight liberations are: 'Seeing forms with form is the first liberation; knowing the inner self as form and seeing external forms is the second; the liberation of beauty, having realized it with the body and dwelling completely, is the third; the sphere of infinite space is the fourth; the sphere of infinite consciousness is the fifth; the sphere of nothingness is the sixth; the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception is the seventh.'

Oṃ! Entering into the Samadhi of Cessation (འགོག་པ་) is the eighth. The purity of the three eyes is the three Vajras In the Pañcakrama it is said: 'The hands are sixteen, like the phases of the moon (ཕྱག་ནི་བཅུ་དྲུག་ཟླ་བའི་ཆ།), their nature is also sixteen wisdoms (དེ་ཉིད་རྣམ་པར་བཅུ་དྲུག་རིག), with the cessation of the eight apertures (བུ་ག་བརྒྱད་པོ་འགོག་པ་ཡིས), one becomes the eight-faced Lord (དབང་ཕྱུག་དམ་པ་ཞལ་བརྒྱད་པའོ).' It is also said: 'The moon, the sun, the darkness, and the fire (ཟླ་བ་ཉི་མ་མུན་པ་མེ), that which is stopped by the feet (གང་ཞིག་ཞབས་ཀྱིས་འགོག་མཛད་པ).' Therefore, saying 'the sixteen hands of Hevajra (ཀྱེའི་རྡོ་རྗེའི་)', does not refer to the sixteen forms holding skull cups (ཐོད་པ་ཁྱེར་བའི་ཟིང་ངེ་བཅུ་དྲུག་), do not focus your mind on this, but rather use this as a symbolic sign, and abide in the sixteen emptinesses (སྟོང་པ་ཉིད་བཅུ་དྲུག་) that are symbolized. For example, when saying 'come' (ཤོག་), pointing with a finger, one does not think about the bending and stretching of the finger, but understands it as the meaning of 'come'. Third, the purity of self-awareness is: 'The nature of self-awareness is purity itself (རང་རིག་བདག་ཉིད་དག་པ་ཉིད), purity is not liberation by another (དག་པ་གཞན་གྱིས་རྣམ་གྲོལ་མིན).' Etc., meaning that by connecting the mind with the deity (ལྷ་) as a symbolic means, the appearance of what is symbolized does not cease, but by clinging to this, a state of purity, clarity, and non-duality arises, and liberation is attained through this, not merely through intellectual speculation. The way of purity is: 'Having made impurity without poison by purity (དག་པས་དུག་མེད་བྱས་ནས་ནི), the object of reliance is also the true object of reliance (བརྟེན་བྱ་ཡང་དག་བརྟེན་པ་ཉིད).' Meaning that it appears as it is, not through effort, but as the ultimate reality. The necessity of purity is: 'To purify the obscurations of afflictions and knowledge And 'By whatever binds the world (གང་དང་གང་གིས་འཇིག་རྟེན་འཆིང་འགྱུར་པ), by that very thing one is liberated from bondage (དེ་དང་དེས་ནི་འཆིང་བ་ལས་གྲོལ་ཏེ).' Etc., all for this necessity. Chapter Ten: Empowerment Now, the tenth chapter is taught, namely, from 'From that, how the mandala's (དེ་ནས་ཇི་ལྟར་དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་གྱི), order is truly well explained (རིམ་པ་ཡང་དག་རབ་ཏུ་བཤད).' And so on, from the scriptures. Because it is necessary to obtain empowerment by practicing the generation stage (བསྐྱེད་རིམ་) and completion stage (རྫོགས་རིམ་) of the Selfless Mother (བདག་མེད་མའི་) with complete purity, the ritual of the mandala and the system of empowerment are explained here. Therefore, it is called the Chapter on Empowerment. This chapter also arises from the brief statement: 'How the yoga of the yogini Etc., that is, the devotion to the yoga of the Selfless Mother, is liberation attained through empowerment, or through the preceding generation stage or completion stage? Here, it is to show that liberation is attained through empowerment. Then, why teach empowerment first, and then teach the generation and completion stages? Because empowerment must be performed by someone who has completed the approach retreat (བསྙེན་པ་), and the approach retreat is accomplished through the yoga of the deity, so these are done first, and then empowerment is taught later. As the Mirror of the Wanderers says: 'If one does not know the path of omniscience --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
