It makes all necessities of guarding come about according to one's mind, either immediately or without delay. 'Protecting all sentient beings' means preventing unwanted things like sickness and evil spirits from arising in the future if they have not already arisen. 'Pacifying' means eliminating unwanted things that have already arisen. 'Increasing' means increasing life, merit, and enjoyment. 'Making all sentient beings stiff' means making the bodies and speech of wicked people who do not believe in the Buddha's teachings stiff and unable to act. 'Making unconscious,' where 'unconscious' means making the mind confused, causing one to not know anything by diminishing memory. Thus, the eight from frightening to destroying all demons are wrathful. Attracting and employing are two empowering actions. Accomplishing what is not accomplished, not wasting, and granting desires are three increasing actions. Protecting, pacifying, stiffening, and stupefying are two wrathful actions. Thus, these eighteen activities can be summarized into four types of actions: pacifying, increasing, empowering, and wrathful. Empowering can be included in increasing and wrathful actions, so it can also be explained as three. As it is said in the tantra: 'Pacifying and increasing, likewise wrathful conduct, in short, actions are, in three ways, proclaimed in all mantras.' Then, if it is said, 'Pacifying is done by the Sugata, increasing is born from the lotus family, the vajra family speaks of mantras, wrathful conduct is the action,' then does that contradict what was previously stated? It does not, because each family performs three actions, as it is said in the tantra: 'The wise in all three families, show excellence and so on, with distinctions of pacifying and so on, actions should be done in three ways.' Then, if the tantra says that each family has its own actions, what is the intention? This refers to the intention of the main meaning, that is, in that same tantra it says: 'Taking the name of the beginning, whatever mantras are spoken, that itself is the main one, the rest should be known as other.' Subjugating and destroying all actions should be understood as related to wrathful and burning actions. Pacifying, increasing, and empowering are actions that follow others, while wrathful is subduing others, and can also be summarized into two types, that is, actions are diverse, manifest actions are known in eight ways, namely subduing and taking hold.

The great power of secret mantra is the power of the Buddha, spoken by Vajrapani (Buddhist Dharma protector). Because it is hidden and not taught to the inferior, and because its ability surpasses other methods, it is called the great power of secret mantra. What is it? It is the Vajra mantra that will be discussed below. Who speaks it? It is Vajrapani, here referring to the (power) that destroys the Vajra (thunderbolt), not the real Vajrapani. Who blesses it? It is blessed by the power of Shakyamuni (founder of Buddhism) and others, which is the power of the Buddha. As the scripture says: 'However much the Shravakas of the Buddhas teach the Dharma,' etc., and 'Again, those who teach and explain are the power of the Buddha,' thus it is shown. To accommodate later disciples, it is taught thus: If someone is harmed by non-humans (referring to the eight classes of gods and dragons, etc.), the practitioner, I, will spread white clothes, etc., in white places, collect white objects, and with these conditions, perform peaceful actions with a peaceful mind, and great peace will be achieved. If someone wants to increase lifespan, etc., they should wear yellow clothes, etc., collect yellow objects, and perform increasing actions, and increase will be achieved. If someone wants to perform fierce actions such as eating meat, they should wear black clothes, etc., in black places, collect black objects, and with a hateful mind perform subjugating actions, and stiffness, etc., will be achieved. This is what is to be shown. In the true sense, these eighteen (steps) show the stages of the path: The mind is self-luminous, dependent on the body, therefore it is a sentient being. With the fire of the wisdom of emptiness, burn the firewood of afflictions in one's own continuum, pacify the manifestation of afflictions, external objects are mantras, by observing that it does not establish as a real entity other than the mind, cut off, suppress the clinging to objects, action is effort, destroy by truly establishing the meaning, destroy the karma of other appearances by the combination of conceptual thoughts, self-liberate the demons of grasping and being grasped, transcend it by making it no longer arise, the Bhuta (one of the five great elements) is breath, is the nature of the four great elements, gather them into the central channel, thereby enabling them to accomplish all the actions of obtaining mastery over the elements, the two kinds of accomplishments are not accomplished, make them accomplished by the four baths, accomplishment is seeing the Samadhi (concentration) of Vajra, not wasting time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
