To recognize and focus on meditating on suchness is the tantra of yoga. To focus solely on non-dual wisdom is the anuttarayoga tantra. This comes from 'Tsul Sum Dron Ma'. Alternatively, based on the letters of the four cakras, the tantras are classified into four categories. The venerable Naropa said: 'The letters of the boundaries are of four kinds, namely kriya tantra, carya tantra, and anuttarayoga tantra.' Some Tibetan scholars, based on accommodating outsiders and observing the four Buddhist schools, divide them into four categories, but these statements have not been found in any scriptures and are purely speculative. As systematically established like dissection, these all belong to the Tripitaka. Fourth, as systematically established like dissection, these all belong to the Tripitaka. The respective meanings, characteristics, and detailed classifications are of four kinds. The first is: 'The pitaka can be three or two, because it contains, so it is considered to have nine reasons.' It is proven by nine reasons that all twelve parts of the scriptures are included in the Tripitaka. Which of the three pitakas does this belong to? Śrāddhākara said: 'The mantrayana is not included in the three pitakas; it is called the vidyādhara-piṭaka, which is another pitaka besides the bodhisattva-piṭaka.' As it is said: 'The three vehicles of outer, inner, and secret should fully accept the Dharma.' This shows that it does not belong to any of the three pitakas taught in the exoteric tradition, so it is regarded as the fourth pitaka relative to the three pitakas, namely the vidyādhara-piṭaka. Padmasambhava also said: 'The Dharma spoken by the Buddha is divided into four categories: vinaya, sutra, abhidharma, and vidyādhara.' Furthermore, Śrāddhākara does not disapprove of dividing the mantra itself into three pitakas; he himself said: 'Or, it can also be said that it is included in the three pitakas; the nine parts of the scriptures belong to the Mahayana pitaka, and the secret mantra pitaka also includes the nine parts of the scriptures, because it expounds the three trainings (triśikṣā), so it is classified as the three pitakas.' Padmasambhava also said: 'All the meanings of the great tantras are explained in a concise and profound way, therefore, the sugata speaks in the sutra pitaka.' Speaking in the sutra pitaka means including all the Mahayana in an extremely vast pitaka. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is like a lotus. Śāntipa said, 'Which of the twelve scriptures is this? This scripture reveals the profound meaning in a concise way, so it is the Sūtra Piṭaka.' Its meaning is that the Buddha's teachings belong to the Sūtra Piṭaka and also appear in the Vinaya Piṭaka. Since it does not contradict the Dharma nature, these four tantras also belong to their respective vast collections of treatises. The afflictions of Bodhisattvas are conceptual thoughts, and the Vinaya Piṭaka explains the methods for taming these afflictions. Due to its profoundness and vastness, and not contradicting the Dharma nature of Bodhi, Śrāddhākara and Abhayākara both believe that this scripture fully explains the meaning of the three Piṭakas, so it belongs to all three. Its meaning is that the way of Prajñāpāramitā is not completely directly explained, only slightly mentioned, while the way of mantra is completely directly explained, so it is called the hidden teaching, or the vast teaching, or the rich teaching. As Shakyamuni Buddha said in the 'Great Play Sūtra': 'For Brahmins and people, the rich Dharma, not seeking disputes, is briefly explained.' Therefore, for those with great wisdom, there is no difference between exoteric and esoteric, while for those with small wisdom, they appear different, such as the commentaries on Prajñāpāramitā, such as the 'Mūlamadhyamakakārikā' and the 'Abhisamayālaṅkāra'. Individual etymologies. Second, the individual etymologies are: because it mainly explains external actions such as bathing and cleaning, it is the Kriyā Tantra. In the commentary on the 'Condensed Meaning of the Hevajra Tantra', it says: 'For those who do not have the ability to contemplate Suchness, but like the behavior of signs, the Kriyā Tantra mainly explains those external behaviors.' In the 'Subsequent Samādhi Tantra', it says: 'Because this is the Kriyā Tantra, even if practicing yoga, one should not completely abandon the act of cleaning.' Thus spoke the Buddha. Therefore, practicing both external physical and verbal actions and internal mental nature equally is Ubhaya Tantra, or mainly explaining ascetic behavior, so it is the Caryā Tantra. In the 'Lamp Illuminating', it says: 'Asceticism, accomplishment, and miracles mainly belong to the Caryā Tantra.' Or in the 'Vajra Heart Ornament Tantra', it says: 'Action and Ubhaya are Yoga Tantra, their intentions are not like that.' In the 'Commentary on the Words of Manifest Enlightenment', it says: 'This tantra is also a combination tantra mainly based on skillful means and wisdom, but for disciples who like action...' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
