The Kriya Tantra (ོད་པའི་རྒྱུད།): For those who are pleased with holding hands, the holders of Gandenpa (དགའ་ལྡན་པ་, Gelugpa), in order to counteract desire, the yoga tantra (རྣལ་འབྱོར་གྱི་རྒྱུད།) is to use the special bliss that male and female deities can satisfy with just holding hands as the path. For the thirty-three heavens and below, in order to counteract desire, the Maha Yoga Tantra (རྣལ་འབྱོར་ཆེན་པོའི་རྒྱུད།) is to use the co-emergent bliss that male and female deities can satisfy by mutually engaging as the path. Therefore, counteracting desire with desire exists like a woodworm in a tree or a child of sin. In the Vajra Tent Tantra (རྡོ་རྗེ་གུར།) it says: 'For the inferior ones, it is the Kriya Tantra (བྱ་བའི་རྒྱུད།); non-action is yoga (རྣལ་འབྱོར་དེ་ལྟག་ལ།); for the supreme sentient beings, it is the supreme yoga (རྣལ་འབྱོར་མཆོག); the Anuttara Yoga is also like that (རྣལ་འབྱོར་བླ་མེད་དེ་ལྟག་ལ།).' In the commentary it says: 'The so-called Kriya Tantra means regarding external statues and paintings as deities, and emphasizing cleanliness and vows, etc.' The so-called practice of action means observing from oneself outwards. The so-called yoga means regarding one's own wheel-born wisdom and self-nature as one. The so-called Anuttara Yoga means enjoying the great secret of supreme bliss arising from embracing one's own consort. The so-called Anuttara Yoga means focusing on the supreme bliss arising from the union of one's own deity's vajra (རྡོ་རྗེ, vajra, diamond scepter) and lotus (པདྨ, padma, lotus). Therefore, for those with inferior faculties and low intelligence who enjoy external actions such as bathing, for their sake, the Kriya Tantra shows external paintings and the like as deities and demonstrates actions such as cleanliness. For those who are superior to them, the Charya Tantra practices observing oneself and the deity externally from oneself. For those who are more intelligent than them, the Yoga Tantra only practices the samadhi of regarding oneself and the wisdom deity as one. For those who are superior and intelligent than them, the Father Tantra of Yoga Supreme and the Mother Tantra of Anuttara Yoga are taught for the sake of practicing the unsurpassed special samadhi. The Condensed Kalachakra Tantra (དུས་འཁོར་བསྡུས་རྒྱུད།) says: 'The Wisdom Tantra is from the east, and then the Yoga follows from the west, the Lord of the Conquerors, the Yoga Tantra, is spoken from the right, and actions and so on from the left.' The left face, due to the habit of waking up from sleep, clings to the gross external objects, which are the Kriya and Charya Tantras. The right face, due to the habit of dreams, clings to the mere appearance of the mind, which is the Yoga Tantra. The front face, due to the habit of deep sleep. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By the power of causing external conceptualizations to cease, clinging to non-conceptualization is the Yoginī Tantra (Mother Tantra). Due to the influence of the imprints of the four-faced deity, clinging to truth is the Yoga Subsequent Cognition Tantra (Father Tantra). In 'Stainless Light' it says: 'Here, the manifestation of the first session is the wild Tantra. The manifestation of the third session is the view Tantra. The manifestation of the fifth session is the Tantra of touching the breasts. The interval of the seventh session is the Tantra of holding hands.' Thus, there are four types of Tantra. Nāgpopa said: 'When time is divided into four, the Tantra becomes four types.' Therefore, due to the existence of the four times: the perfect age, the threefold age, the twofold age, and the age of strife, they are divided into four: Kriya, Carya, Yoga, and Anuttarayoga. In the 'Lamp Illuminating the Excellent' it says: 'For those with superior and middling ignorance, the Kriya Tantra is taught. For those with inferior ignorance, the Carya Tantra is taught. For those with inferior and intermediate attachment, hatred, and ignorance, the Yoga Tantra is taught. For those with superior attachment, hatred, and ignorance, the Supreme Yoga Tantra is taught. For those with the most superior attachment, hatred, and ignorance, the Yoginī Tantra is taught.' For the Brahmin caste, who delight in bathing and cleanliness, who believe in liberation through asceticism and hardship, and who hold their caste as supreme, the Kriya Tantra teaches liberation through recitation and fire offerings. For the royal caste, who cannot endure intense asceticism and hardship, and who do not engage in base activities, the Carya Tantra, while denigrating external cleanliness and the like, teaches both internal means and the yoga of wisdom, as well as external actions. For the royal caste, who cannot endure asceticism and who indulge in the pleasures of the five senses, the Yoga Tantra is taught to guide them. For the commoner caste, who eat everything without regard for cleanliness, who engage in all kinds of evil deeds, and who have little conceptual thought, the Anuttarayoga Tantra teaches, through the path of non-conceptualization, the consumption of the five meats and five nectars, and reveals base activities through intentional language. This is from the commentary on the Vajramala, composed by the teacher Alangakāla. For disciples who are inclined towards many external activities, it is the Kriya Tantra. For those who are inclined towards reality itself and who delight in not engaging in many activities, it is the Carya Tantra. Many activities are distracting --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
