Firstly, Dhyeya Lotsawa said: Utmost purity has four distinctions: the distinction of cause, the distinction of place, the distinction of result, and the distinction of essence. The distinction of cause has two aspects: relying on the Dharma that is in accordance, which is to attend to and honor the Buddha, to practice generosity and other perfections, to diligently engage in the perfections without being separated from the ultimate truth, and even though one does not see increase or decrease, not abandoning any Dharma and not being separated from the Buddha, and the merits of the cause, such as offerings to the Buddha, are accomplished merely by generating the mind of enlightenment, and maturing sentient beings with a mind that is not mixed with afflictions and the lower vehicle, purifying the Buddha-field, and cultivating the means to abandon samsara and nirvana, but without skill. Abandoning the Dharma that obstructs has four aspects: being harmed by demons due to not having accumulated merit in the past, not believing in the profound Dharma due to not having the lineage, being attached to the skandhas and so on due to not having cultivated wisdom, and being seized by evil friends, being separated from these is. The place is the Dharmata that pervades both the states of being with defilements and being without defilements, and the general characteristic is established as the purity of self-nature. The result is the state of the noble ones who are without defilements and pure, and there is no other place besides that, it is the specific characteristic that is established. The essence of self is twofold: distinction and characteristic. The distinction is: in the nine grounds, there are names such as great and great. The characteristic is: in this, it is said with 'abandoning disputes' and so on. The eleven objects of the path of knowledge abide in five meanings: the person who cultivates the path, the path of the Hearers that is to be known by him, the path of the Solitary Buddhas, and the path of seeing and the path of cultivation of the Bodhisattvas that are to be realized. In the latter, there are three: the function of the path of cultivation, the path of cultivation with outflows, and the path of cultivation without outflows. In the path of cultivation without outflows, one should know that there are the path of cultivation of conviction and the path of cultivation of purification. Third, the Abhisamaya of the Basis Knowledge. Regarding the third object, the Abhisamaya of the Basis Knowledge, the 'Subduing Harm' says: 'Thereafter, desiring to perfect the Omniscient Wisdom, the wisdom of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas is taught, but although the Bodhisattvas do not directly realize the Omniscient Wisdom, for the benefit of sentient beings, the nature of the Omniscient Wisdom...'

And, knowing the cause of attaining omniscience, he establishes sentient beings in the fruits such as stream-enterer and so on. Therefore, omniscience is also perfected by this. The reason for not explaining the condition for omniscience is that the Bodhisattva can realize it with just this, so there is no need to elaborate. Therefore, The self-benefiting actions of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and the actions of the Bodhisattvas, are only described as being similar to them. Therefore, in this 'Ornament for Clear Realization', the differences between the two are explained. Among them, the first is the foundational wisdom of not abiding in samsara and nirvana: 'Not on this shore or the other shore, nor does he abide in the middle stream.' etc., through realizing the faults of samsara, such as impermanence, etc., thereby not abiding in samsara, which is also present in the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. But only this (Bodhisattva) has great compassion and does not abide in nirvana. They do not possess these, therefore the Bodhisattva is more superior. Therefore, not abiding at the end of the path means not attaining the two extremes. Secondly, knowing the foundational wisdom of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas through cessation: 'By its cessation, he is liberated.' Thirdly, the foundational wisdom of being far from the Mother of the Conquerors due to not being skillful in means is that of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Although realizing the meaning of other-powered phenomena, such as impermanence, etc., is also present in the Shravakas, they do not realize the perfectly established nature like space. This is clinging to the object of focus on characteristics, etc. The Bodhisattva possesses this, therefore, in terms of realization, the Bodhisattva is more superior. Thirdly, the foundational wisdom of skillfully approaching the Mother of Means: Not being skillful in means refers to the nature of the imputed characteristics of names and signs that manifest the perfectly established nature, and clinging to the appearance of duality as real. Skillful means refers to: how names and signs exist as a means of manifesting the perfectly established nature, not fearing their emptiness, etc., therefore the Bodhisattva approaches the Prajnaparamita of wisdom that is free from perversion. The Shravakas do not possess these, therefore they are far away. As it is said: 'Without skillful means, wisdom falls into the Shravaka path.' Fifth, the foundational wisdom of opposing factors: Clinging to the characteristics of knowable objects, clinging to the characteristics of actions, clinging to the characteristics of results, there are three types. Sixth, there are four aspects of the antidote: abandoning attachment to knowable objects, not being conceited about actions, knowing that all phenomena have the same nature, and explaining its profundity. Seventh, there are two differences in its application: self-characteristic and general characteristic. The self-characteristic is what is explained here, and it is also the ten different distinctions of the Dharma of application. These are also the objects of... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
