It should not be like growing, expanding, and becoming vast. (Meaning, one should not allow evil deeds to grow, expand, and spread.) From now on, for what you have not done, what should not be done, and what has been abandoned that should not be done, strive to guard your mind very diligently with mindfulness and vigilance. If you do not do such things, you should say, 'I do not do.' This is about the Dharmas that lead to downfall. Next, the Dharmas of practice will be discussed, so listen, O Venerable One. These four things are what the Bhagavan, the Tathagata (Tathāgata, 'one who has thus come'), the Arhat (Arhat, 'worthy of offering'), the Samyak-saṃbuddha (Samyak-saṃbuddha, 'perfectly enlightened one'), the Vidyā-caraṇa-saṃpanna ('endowed with knowledge and conduct'), the Sugata ('well-gone'), the Lokavidū ('knower of the world'), the Anuttara-puruṣa-damya-sārathi ('unsurpassed trainer of persons to be tamed'), the Puruṣa-damya-sārathi ('trainer of persons to be tamed'), the Śāsta deva-manushyānām ('teacher of gods and humans'), the Buddha ('enlightened one'), the Bhagavat ('blessed one'), the knower, the seer, has declared as the Dharmas of practice for monks who have gone forth and taken full ordination. What are these four? O Venerable One, from now on, even if scolded, do not scold back; even if angry, do not intimidate; even if beaten, do not beat back; even if exposed, do not expose back. If you do such things, you should say, 'I do.' This is about the Dharmas of practice. Next, the attainment of the supreme desire through true realization will be discussed, so listen, O Venerable One. Whatever joy you previously had in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, and whatever desire you had to obtain the possessions of a monk who has gone forth and taken full ordination, as long as I am suitable to be your preceptor and teacher, and the Sangha is in harmony, without requests and disturbances of the four karmas, even if it needs to be repeated, because these are absent, it does not exceed the ritual, it is an act in accordance with the Dharma, therefore it is not suitable for printing. Therefore, you have gone forth and taken full ordination. This is about the attainment of the supreme desire through true realization. Next, it must be determined to practice equally through discipline, so listen, O Venerable One. What a monk who has been fully ordained for a hundred years should learn, one who is fully ordained today should also learn. What a monk who is fully ordained today should learn, one who has been fully ordained for a hundred years should also learn. Therefore, being equal in discipline, equal in training, and equal in reciting the Pratimoksha Sutra, these you should practice from now on, and should not not practice.
