One who is of the nature of peace should not engage in many activities; a son of the Shakya should not become a beggar. If a monk's possessions are ruined, then his monastic practice is also ruined, his practice as a renunciate is also ruined, and he also falls. Those who see him have no share, or he is destroyed, or he is broken. One who cannot subdue afflictions also falls, one who is ruined. His practice as a renunciate cannot be recovered. For example, if the head of a palm tree is cut off, it cannot become green again, it cannot grow, it cannot increase, it cannot become vast. What are the four? Attachment and desire for the five objects of desire, clinging to them even knowing their faults, generating a fierce mind towards them, and having a strong attachment to the object of desire among all objects of desire. The Blessed One has condemned these in many ways. Abandoning future desires is praised. Those that have already arisen are completely cut off, and there is no expectation for those that have not yet arisen, so there is no object of focus for those thoughts, therefore it is called abandonment. Extinction is the nature, freedom from desire, cessation is the antidote, obtaining the undefiled path, peace is the cessation of afflictions and no rebirth, cessation is the praise of the qualities of nature. Reverence is the proclamation of the qualities of the fruit, praise is the remembrance of the kindness of others, pleasing is the rejoicing in the praise of qualities. Venerable one, from now on, you should not fix your eyes on the object of women with a mind of desire, you should not look at them with your eyes, let alone engage in impure conduct, practice the law of lust by joining the two together. Venerable one, the Blessed One, the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, the Knower and Seer, if there is a monk who studies together with the monks, and has not offered, who should offer? One whose nature is ruined, one who is mad, one whose mind is distracted, one who is tormented by intense suffering, if he offers, it will not be an offering, because he has no mind. His mind abides in its nature, so he should offer. To whom should he offer? To one who has not ruined his training, who does not engage in impure conduct, who does not practice the law of lust. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -56

Even simultaneously with being born as an animal, the Bhikshu is defeated and should not remain.’ This was spoken by the Buddha. If a Bhikshu acts in such a way, immediately he is no longer a Bhikshu, no longer a Shramana, no longer a son of the Shakyas. He will be lost from the state of a Bhikshu, his Shramana practice will be destroyed, lost, broken, fallen, defeated, and his Shramana practice will be irretrievable. For example, if the head of a palm tree is cut off, it cannot become green again, nor can it grow, flourish, and expand. From now on, you should diligently guard your mind with mindfulness and awareness, striving to avoid what should not be done, what should be abandoned, what should not be practiced, and what should be abandoned fundamentally and ultimately. Do not engage in such conduct, he will be said not to engage. Venerable one, listen! Taking what is not given is condemned by the Blessed One in many ways. Abstaining from taking what is not given is praised, honored, revered, and extolled. Venerable one, from now on, if you do not take even a sesame seed belonging to another with a thieving mind, what need is there to mention five Mashakas or more than five Mashakas? Venerable one, the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Knower, the Seer, said that if a Bhikshu dwells in a village or monastery and takes something that belongs to the category of stealing, however much he takes that is not given, the king or a great minister seizes him and says to him, ‘Hey, you are a thief, a child, a fool, a stealer.’ Then they kill him, imprison him, or expel him. If a Bhikshu takes what is not given in this way, then that Bhikshu is defeated and should not remain here.’ This was spoken by the Buddha.
