To be absorbed into it. He (Gongtang Rinpoche) said, 'My arithmetic teachings have been in vain; nothing more wonderful than this has happened this time. If I could stay for a month, I could learn all about astrology, phonetics, etc.' But he himself was in a hurry to return, and I was also unable to because people from Shabdrung (ཞབས་དྲུང་, the尊者) were constantly coming to call me to Tsang (གཙང་, Central Tibet). Later, I wanted to find time, but it never materialized due to being busy. He has great connections with all the Dzongpons (སྡེ་དཔོན་, local officials), and everyone thinks that he has such wisdom.' Therefore, I (Gongtang Rinpoche) became known as wise in Ü-Tsang (དབུས་གཙང་, Central Tibet). At that time, butter was scarce, and they were exchanging old butter from the Bodhi Great Light Lamp for new butter. One night I dreamed that a red butter lamp was burning deep in my throat. When I asked the next day, they told me about it. I saw that they were very afraid of using things dedicated to the Three Jewels, so even when exchanging those things that had already been dedicated, they were very careful. After that, at Ralong Monastery, I received the transmission of the Kangyur (བཀའ་འགྱུར།, the words of the Buddha) in front of Jey Rinpoche (རྗེའི་, the master). At that time, many good things were happening between Kar (ཀར་, place name) and Druk (འབྲུག་, Bhutan). I asked Jey Rinpoche in a skillful way. Jey Karmapa (རྗེ་ཀརྨ་པ་, Karmapa) Mikyo Dorje (མི་བསྐྱོད་རྡོ་རྗེ།, the Unwavering Vajra) was staying at Shang Lha Phun (ཤངས་ལྷ་ཕུན, place name), and I sent tea. I hoped to have a good opportunity to meet him. But after sending it, Karmapa saw that it was rough monks and nobles from the Kong region, and thought that we (Gongtang Rinpoche) were plotting against him, so things did not go well. From Won Rinpoche (དབོན་རིན་པོ་ཆེ།, the尊者) and Kyetsal (སྐྱེད་ཚལ, place name), I taught the Maitri Nyan Gyud (མཻ་ཏྲི་སྙན་རྒྱུད།, Maitreya's Whispered Lineage), Lama Drup (བླ་སྒྲུབ, Guru Yoga), Tendrel Ronyom (རྟེན་འབྲེལ་རོ་སྙོམས, dependent arising), etc., to Kunkhyen Wonpo Chöje Yeshe Gyaltsen (ཀུན་མཁྱེན་དབོན་པོ་ཆོས་རྗེ་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྒྱལ་མཚན།, Omniscient尊者 Dharma Lord Yeshe Gyaltsen), etc. Wonchenpa returned to Kyetsal. During the retreat, immeasurable realizations arose. He used to be a Ngorpa (ངོར་པ, Ngor school), and then he became a Drukpa (འབྲུག་པ, Drukpa Kagyu school). At that time, I thought, 'I must complete my studies, and then go on a solitary retreat, and go on pilgrimage to Nepal, Kashmir, etc.' So, I stayed in Garparlung (སྒར་པར་ལུང་, place name). I did a Tsok Offering (ཆོས་གཏོར, Torma offering). I befriended Kongtsun Khayar (ཀོང་བཙུན་ཁ་ཡར, person's name), a Khampa monk. In terms of learning, I was young before, and the lamas were old, and the tantric explanations I heard were only superficial, and I did not study in depth. Now the Tsang region is famous for its pure teachings, so I will go to Tsang. Even if there is no teacher, I must go to Shalu Monastery (ཞ་ལུར, place name) to review Buton Master's (བུ་སྟོན, Bu-ston Rinchen Drub) collected works.' Just as I was thinking about this, news came from Riwodrak (རི་བོ་བྲག, place name) that his father had passed away and that I had to go to perform the rituals, so I had to go. I performed the funerary rites for the thirteen-year-old deceased, and during the guidance, a white light came from the direction of Shar Rongpo Dzadeng (ཤར་རོང་པོ་རྫ་སྟེང, place name) and landed on my head.
