Or, relative to the knowable (Skt: jñeya, ཤེས་བྱ་), the knower (Skt: jñātṛ, ཡུལ་ཅན་) or the measurer (Skt: pramāṇa-kartṛ, འཇལ་བྱེད་) or consciousness (Skt: vijñāna, ཤེས་པ), is distinguished as valid cognition (Skt: pramāṇa, ཚད་མ་) and non-valid cognition (Skt: apramāṇa, ཚད་མ་མ་ཡིན་པ). Furthermore, the object of valid cognition (Skt: prameya, ཚད་མའི་གཞལ་བྱ་) is also divided into two types based on how it recognizes its essence, either by itself or by others. As it is said: 'Because of self and other essence, the object of valid cognition is established as two.' These two ways of cognition are such that direct perception (Skt: pratyakṣa, མངོན་སུམ་) grasps its own characteristic because it possesses its form, while inference (Skt: anumāna, རྗེས་དཔག་), although it ascertains its own characteristic by following imputation, is called 'other-cognition' (གཞན་རྟོགས་) because it clings to the nature of an object that is a single exclusion. Therefore, valid cognition is divided into two types: direct perception and inference. Among these, the method of distinguishing self-cognition (རང་ངེས་) and other-cognition valid cognition, along with their respective subdivisions, through the means of leading others to certainty, is the reasoning of the Tibetan 'Phywa bdus' (ཕྱྭ་བསྡུས་), which does not appear in any Indian treatises on logic. From a rational perspective, valid cognition can be either valid or non-valid in relation to the object; therefore, it should be distinguished solely based on its relation to the object. Thus, the reason for classifying valid cognition is solely the classification of the object. The word 'only' (ཁོ་ནས་) is used for limitation, and the word 'just' (ཙམ་སྒྲས་) prevents the existence of anything additional. Such direct perception actually becomes a direct component for entering into ultimate valid cognition (དོན་དམ་པའི་ཚད་མ་), and in this regard, faults and qualities become very clear. Therefore, the mind also becomes clear, thereby abandoning habitual tendencies. As it is said. And inference is a component that enters through lineage. Therefore, the wise have established distinctions, universals, boundaries, as well as external signs and sign-possessors, the probandum and the probans, all for the purpose of introducing the ultimate meaning. Therefore, showing the ultimate (དོན་དམ་པ་) as the body and the conventional (ཀུན་ཏུ་ཐ་སྙད་པའི་) valid cognition as the branch is not established like a summary and detailed explanation, but through the means of arising as a method (ཐབས་བྱུང་) and becoming a method for it. Secondly, elaborating in detail through marginal analysis: defining the ability to perform a function as the characteristic of a unique particular (རང་མཚན་), and defining a phenomenon that cannot perform a function as the characteristic of a universal (སྤྱི་མཚན་). Examples of this can be understood by explaining the classifications of the aggregates (Skt: skandha, ཕུང་པོ་), elements (Skt: dhātu, ཁམས་), and sources (Skt: āyatana, སྐྱེ་མཆེད་). The aggregates are five: the aggregate of form (Skt: rūpa, གཟུགས་), the aggregate of feeling (Skt: vedanā, ཚོར་), the aggregate of perception (Skt: saṃjñā, འདུ་ཤེས་), the aggregate of mental formations (Skt: saṃskāra, འདུ་བྱེད་), and the aggregate of consciousness (Skt: vijñāna, རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པའི་). Firstly, the five faculties (དབང་པོ་ལྔ), the five objects (དོན་ལྔ), non-revealing form (Skt: avijñapti-rūpa, རྣམ་པར་རིག་བྱེད་མ་ཡིན་པ), the form of the five objects totals twenty. The element of space (Skt: ākāśa-dhātu, ནམ་མཁའི་ཁམས་) is also included in the light and darkness within this. Sound has eight types, such as graspable and ungraspable, and eleven are explained in the Higher Abhidharma. Smell has four types, and taste has six types. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tangible objects include the four elements (earth, water, fire, wind) and eleven others. Feelings include three types: pleasure, pain, and neutral, or the six feelings arising from contact through the eye consciousness, etc. Perceptions include three types: small, medium, and large, or the six perceptions arising from contact through the eye consciousness, etc. Volition includes two types: associated volition and non-associated volition. All mental factors other than feelings and perceptions, totaling fifty-one, along with the seven treatises on valid cognition, are contained in what is called 'The Essence of Logic: A Compendium of General Meanings'. Mental factors are: the five omnipresent ones, the five object-determining ones, the eleven virtuous ones, the six root afflictions, the twenty secondary afflictions, and the four variable ones, totaling fifty-one in order: contact, attention, feeling, perception, and volition; aspiration, conviction, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom; faith, sense of shame, sense of embarrassment, non-attachment, non-hatred, non-ignorance, diligence, pliancy, conscientiousness, equanimity, and non-harmfulness; desire, anger, pride, ignorance, views, and doubt; wrath, resentment, concealment, vexation, jealousy, miserliness, deceit, pretense, conceit, harmfulness, shamelessness, lack of embarrassment, lethargy, excitement, lack of faith, laziness, carelessness, forgetfulness, distraction, and lack of awareness; regret, sleep, investigation, and analysis. There are seven types of pride: pride, excessive pride, pride beyond pride, 'I am' pride, manifest pride, slight pride, and wrong pride. There are five types of views: the view of the aggregates as a self, the view of extremes, wrong views, the view of holding views as supreme, and the view of holding ethical conduct and discipline as supreme. Non-associated compositional factors are: attainment, commonality of kind, the absorption of non-perception, the non-perception in the absorption of cessation, the life faculty, similarity of type, birth, aging, abiding, impermanence, collection of names, collection of words, collection of letters, or in the higher Abhidharma, individuality of ordinary beings, correspondence with such a nature, or the specific determination of entry, commonality of kind, etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
