The Great Perfection Tantra. In this, there are both the complete root tantras and the branch tantras that each explain a part, making two types. Generally, there are two types of tantras: the explanatory tantras and the pith instruction tantras. The explanatory tantras are those that are difficult to understand because the words are firm and difficult to comprehend, and they are expanded with the six extremes and four modes, making them difficult to understand. They are called explanatory tantras, and are mostly like the common secret mantra tantras. The four modes are: direct meaning, definitive meaning, intention, and hidden intention. The six extremes are: in addition to the above four modes, there are literal meaning (Tibetan: སྒྲ་ཇི་བཞིན་པ་) and non-literal meaning. Direct meaning refers to showing something in accordance with the mind for the sake of honesty, like using a needle to load a horse for the sake of honest trade. For example, it is said in the Stainless Glory of the Tathagata: "By merely hearing one name, the obscurations of the five inexpiable sins will be exhausted." This is an example. Definitive meaning refers to showing the meaning of primordial luminosity, as it is said in the Mother Tantra: "There is no mind on the mind, the nature of mind is luminosity." This is an example. Intention refers to mainly showing the basis of intention, like considering that a sharp weapon is enough to touch and quickly cut. For example, the five aggregates are spoken of as the five families, and so on, like appearing as birds and sounds. Hidden intention refers to mainly showing the necessary purpose. Although effort is needed to place others, effort is not needed for lazy people to enter at that time. Or, saying that the name of the Tathagata once will lead to Buddhahood, or to abandon contempt, the Tathagata appears in various forms at the time of bliss. Although it is not so, teaching at the appropriate time, these are all spoken for the necessary purpose. Literal meaning refers to abandoning evil and showing the body color of the deities, and so on. Non-literal meaning refers to hiding the meaning, such as "The father and mother should be killed." Or "Giving the power to devour the sun and moon." This is an example. Therefore, here, the Great Perfection tantras are easy to understand, the meaning is not confused, and only the definitive meaning is shown. Therefore, it is called the Great Perfection of Pith Instructions, because it is shown to be superior to the way of showing with the six extremes and four modes. In the tantras shown in this way, for the common display of the generation stage and completion stage, there are their respective empowerments, mandalas, and so on, and the mandala of the Great Perfection, symbolic hand gestures, and so on, are explained in ten ways.

Furthermore, it is said that there are ten aspects of the flourishing of the tantras. These are the two aspects of empowerment and vows, the two aspects of mandala and activity, the two aspects of offering and yoga, the two aspects of mantra and mudra, and the two aspects of the generation stage and the completion stage. Thus it is said. The way of explanation (418) has six aspects: essence, definition, example, classification, intention, and the actual words spoken. The essence of perfection is that one possesses all that is needed. The definition is that it is complete in its own appearance and does not depend on others. The example is like the gathering of the king, ministers, and people in one place to discuss matters of state. From that, the essence of perfection, the definition of perfection, the classification of perfection, and the examples of perfection are all shown. First, the essence is shown as possessing the necessary qualities simultaneously. Why is it perfect? Because there is nothing incomplete, it is perfect. The definition is with a definite reason. The classification is what was shown above. For example, the three of king, ministers, and people, whenever they gather, discussions arise. The example is showing one aspect as an example. Thus it is said. There are three classifications, and again from that, there are three classifications: the perfection of the Dharmakaya, the perfection of the Sambhogakaya, and the perfection of the Nirmanakaya (419). The five perfections of the Dharmakaya are: the teacher is the unchanging Dharmakaya, the teaching is the indestructible victory banner, the secret is the five great tantras of awareness, the assembled retinue is not other than the five Sugatas of the five families blazing with light, the place of dwelling is the unborn, free from elaboration, realm of Dharma, the past time is before it appeared, explained through the blessing of the inconceivable teaching. The five perfections of the Sambhogakaya are: the teacher is the five Sugatas of the five families, the teaching is the secret five great tantras, the retinue is the assembly of heroes and heroines, the place is the space of the five wisdom lights, the time is when it arises from the object of cognition. Without explaining with words and letters, it is explained through the form of the Dharmakaya. The Bhagavan Vairochana, to the assembled four Buddha families, explains with the nature of the body tantra. The Bhagavan Vajra Akshobhya, to the retinue of the Vajra family, explains with the nature of the mind tantra. The Bhagavan Ratnasambhava
