Therefore, (wisdom) is great through three certainties. The initial teachers, etc., are great through five fundamental arguments. It is called Buddha, therefore it is great. Thus it is said. For the self-aware, unchanging Dharmakaya, it is beyond thought because there is nothing to grasp. It is superior because there is nothing to meditate on. For the Dharmakaya, which is empty and clear, it is superior because there is no object to focus on, because it is non-dual. For the self-aware, non-substantial, peaceful, there are no characteristics of elaboration and substance. It is superior and great because of its vast self-radiance. For the self-aware, non-dual, great bliss, it is superior and great because there is no symbol of directionlessness, because it cannot be symbolized. For the Dharmakaya, self-born wisdom, it is unconditioned because there is no cause or condition. It is pure and great because there is no change. Because self-awareness is free from the five defilements, it is said that everything is Buddha and great. Thus it is. There are two aspects to showing the wrong path and obscurations: generally showing the wrong path and obscurations, and specifically showing the presence or absence of the wrong path and obscurations. The first has four aspects: essence, definition, classification, and metaphor (410). In the Explanatory Tantra, it is said: The essence of the wrong path and obscurations is ignorance. The definition of the wrong path and obscurations is: being obscured by not seeing the higher, and practicing the meaning of the lower is the wrong path. If the wrong path and obscurations are divided, there are many, but if summarized, there are four types. The wrong path and obscurations of views, the wrong path and obscurations of meditation, the wrong path and obscurations of conduct, and the wrong path and obscurations of results. Showing the metaphor of the wrong path and obscurations: seeking benefit in the north but going to the south, going to the south does not accomplish the benefit of the north. Desiring the meaning of the higher but practicing the lower, the lower cannot obtain the meaning of the higher. Thus it is. The second is: the lower eight have the wrong path and obscurations, while Ati shows that there are no wrong path and obscurations. In that (Tantra) it is said: The wrong path and obscurations of the nine vehicles, if divided in detail, are inconceivable, but if summarized, there are thirty-six. View, meditation, conduct, and result, the three categories of characteristics have many obscurations, thirty-six, twenty-two, and eight, the three have a sequence. Each of the eight vehicles has four roots of view, meditation, conduct, and result, twelve, eight, and four. The three outer schools have the same wrong path and obscurations, if the peak is not added, (411) then the twelve obscurations are cut off by darkness. There are twelve places of the wrong path of falling. The two inner schools also have places of the wrong path, thirty-two, eight in sequence. The obscurations abide as four and eight.

Sa! In the single sphere of Dzogchen, there is no distinction between straying and not straying. The straying ground is naturally pure, utterly detached, and therefore not abandoned as it is unique. The view, meditation, and conduct of Ati, and the fruit, are primordially non-dual. Therefore, there is no straying obscuration in the appearance of duality. The four: view, meditation, conduct, and fruit, are primordially self-arisen wisdom. Therefore, there is no straying obscuration from the aggregation of causes and conditions. The Dzogchen view, meditation, and conduct, and the fruit are spontaneously accomplished. Therefore, meditation and practice involve hope, fear, and effort. The straying ground and obscurations are utterly purified. Above me, there is no other. Therefore, it is unobscured, clear wisdom. Even the appearances below the eight vehicles are the compassionate activities of my mind. Remaining in the state of non-differentiating wisdom, the unmixed, perfect wisdom, therefore, the straying ground of falling is utterly purified. From the self-illumination of non-differentiating wisdom, the straying and obscuration are clear without differentiation. (412) Thus it is said. Furthermore, the lower vehicles involve differing mental fabrications, effort, and practice. Therefore, in such approaches, there are straying grounds that are not true, and obscurations from not seeing the true meaning. Ati directly sees the single, self-arisen wisdom, and therefore, there is no effort or practice. Thus, there is no straying or obscuration. The indicative words are also from that very source: Kye! Great Bodhisattva, if you speak of the duality of grasper and grasped, it is said to be the view of the Shravakas. If there is grasping but no grasped, it is said to be the view of the Pratyekabuddhas. If you speak of mind and appearances, and of ultimate truth and conventional truth, it is said to be the view of the Bodhisattvas. For those who desire the three lineages in all that is the same ultimate truth, it is said to be the view of the outer Kriyas. Desiring two parts is said to be the view of Upa. If words appear that symbolize the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, that is said to be the view of Yoga. If words appear that symbolize the forty-two peaceful deities, that is said to be the view of Maha Yoga. If collections of words of the unborn appear, and words of space and wisdom, that is said to be the view of Anu Yoga. If collections of words that transcend action and effort appear, and all the words of self-arisen wisdom, and spontaneously accomplished (413) wisdom, Buddhas, etc., these are said to be the view of Dzogchen. Thus it is said. Secondly, there are three ways to explain one's own superimpositions in detail: explaining the meaning of Tantra, Agama, and Upadesha. The first of these has six aspects: essence, definition, divisions, similarity, measure, and mode of explanation. The first is: the self-arisen wisdom, and the words symbolizing the ground, path, and fruit.
