I abide in the essence of the Great Self, the Tika. If this meaning is realized, there is no need for practice, as it abides in oneself, and there is no gathering or scattering. Object and subject, what is to be meditated upon and the meditator, all have no separate and conceptual fixations, like a fly's wings stuck to tar. If the ordinary meaning of the nature of reality is not realized, ordinary beings will not be liberated. In any case, it must be realized, so there should be no distraction. Just at the moment of definite realization, there is no definiteness. Even when sitting, one is merely abiding in the self-appearance of the nature of reality, without moving. Even when walking, one walks in the state of the self-radiance of wisdom, without ceasing from one's own nature, like a lamp or the sun moving with its own appearance. Even when sleeping (376), in the state of non-movement, in the clear and empty state of awareness, the potential gathers at the base, one's own nature dissolves into the base, appearances are liberated in their own place, and meaning turns into great accomplishment. Even when rising, awareness dawns spontaneously in the state of non-fabrication, and one's own nature is clear without ceasing. Alas! Son of the lineage, keep this well in mind! Whatever of the four activities you do, do not stray from the ground of self-awareness and do not move from the nature of reality. For example, just as a bird does not stray from the sky no matter where it flies, a fish does not stray from the water no matter where it swims, and a person does not stray from the earth no matter where they go, so the yogi abides in the view of the meaning. Son of the lineage! The object of meditation is the perfectly complete Buddha. He is not separate, but is simply one's own awareness, the Dharmakaya. All that arises is self-arisen, awareness, the Dharmakaya, emptiness, without cessation, and the two are inseparable. Knowing this way, there is no cessation, and there is no obstruction to it. Thus, the five characteristics are explained. The five wisdoms arise as light. Light arises as the five families. (377) The five families arise as the five bodies. The five bodies, the five fathers and mothers, do not cease. The fathers and mothers, the heroes and heroines, do not cease. From the five families, the fathers and mothers, the five gates arise. From the heroes, the faculties and consciousnesses arise. From the heroines, the objects arise. This is because the view of self-arisen awareness expands appearances, and in the wisdom of self-appearance, there is no conceptual thought of the base appearance. At the time of cessation, only the view of self-liberation of appearances remains at the base. The five objects are liberated within the five gates. The five gates are liberated in the state of heroes and heroines. The heroes and heroines, the bodies

It is liberated within the state of the five mothers. Those five are also liberated within the state of the five wisdoms. The five wisdoms are liberated into the five characteristics of self-awareness. The five characteristics are liberated into the ungrasping, self-luminous awareness. In the bed of the seven senses, the elements dissolve into the mother. They merge into the realm of wisdom. Having been liberated in this way, not moving from its own state is like knowledge being contained in a vase. The nature of reality, the Dharmakaya, is inseparable, in a clear and empty vase, the self-aware wisdom is clear like a lamp unmoved by the wind (378). This is the instruction of how knowledge enters the vase. By falling asleep in the sleep of ignorance, one attains the meaning of wisdom, which is suchness. Although everything arises, it arises from itself. Although it appears, it appears from itself. Although it is clear, it is clear from itself. Although it is pure and liberated, it is liberated in its own state, therefore it is the great self-purified wisdom. This shows that the appearance of the essence is the great self-appearance, without any other appearance. Just as clouds and vapors arise in the sky, they arise from the sky. Although they appear, they appear from the sky. Although they abide, they abide in the state of the sky. Although they are pure, they are pure in the state of the sky. Although they are liberated, they are liberated in the state of the sky. So it is said. This shows the intention of self-appearing wisdom, which is the great non-meditation, non-distraction. The last sense faculty, the teaching of the self-appearing meditation of Dharmata, has two aspects: the reason for meditation and the way to meditate. The reason is: In the All-illuminating, meditation is taught to those with clinging thoughts. If one does not understand non-meditation, one does not perceive, does not pay attention, and does not realize transcendence of action, then one will not find the meaning of continuous Samadhi. If one does not understand that there is meditation (379), then there is no difference from ordinary people. Ordinary people's self-continuum goes astray. By knowing the meditation of non-meditation, the only Buddha is without gathering and scattering. By knowing the meaning of non-meditation through meditation, one turns away from the edge of the objective mind. By realizing the meaning of non-duality, one is free from the boundary of clinging to that side. By showing the meaning of meditation, one goes to the end on the basis of the fundamental nature. So it is said. There are three ways to meditate: the method of learning, what to learn, and showing the extent of familiarity. The first has three aspects: outer, inner, and secret. The outer is to abandon the activities of delusion and place the three doors in their own place, so that the channels and winds are calm and balanced, and awareness abides in its own place. The inner is to keep the body, eyes, and wind still, and abide in the posture of looking, so that the thoughts stop in their own place, and the key point of the self-appearance of clear light arises.
