It is also said as three based on this. It says in that very text: "Impure, half impure and half pure, pure, and very pure, in that order, are called sentient beings, Bodhisattvas, and Tathagatas." Thus it is said. There are three examples: the example of self-purified spontaneous accomplishment, the example of pervasiveness and immutability, and the example of various extremely clear things. First, the three kayas of the ground are inherently self-accomplished, like the sky, like a jewel, and like pure water. By considering emptiness, spontaneous accomplishment, and the arising of compassion. As it says in the Uttaratantra: "Like precious sky and pure water, always naturally without defilements, wisdom surpassing faith in the Dharma, and arising from samadhi and compassion, power and immutability, and because of the nature of moisture, these wish-fulfilling jewels, sky, the qualities of water are in accordance with the Dharma." Thus it is said. Second (page 308), is the example of self-nature transcending other examples, the Tathagata is exemplified by self-nature, the taste of honey is exemplified by being profound and difficult to realize, the space inside a vessel is exemplified by pervading the essence of all, and the nature of gold is exemplified by immutability. These are the four examples. As it says in that very text: "Because it transcends the world, in the world, there is no example to be observed for this, therefore the Tathagata himself and the realm are shown to be the same. Showing the subtle and profound way, like the single taste of honey, showing the way of various forms, it should be known like the essence of various honeycombs. Because of the immutability of nature, and goodness and complete purity. Suchness is the same as the form of gold, it is said to be the same." Thus it is said. And in its commentary it says: "Whatever sentient being is external to the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata, that sentient being is not in the realm of sentient beings, like form in the realm of space." Thus it is said: "Just as space always accommodates everything, so this also always (page 309) accommodates everything. Just as space accommodates all forms, so this also accommodates all sentient beings." Thus it is said. Third, divided into two: brief explanation and extensive explanation. The first is as it says in the Uttaratantra: "Buddha in the lotus, honey in the bee, the essence of the grain in the chaff, purity in impure things, gold inside, treasures and sprouts and fruits in the earth, and in torn clothes"

Thus, the body of the Victorious One, and the lord of men in the womb of a wicked woman, just as there is a precious form inside the earth, obscured by the sudden defilements of afflictions, sentient beings likewise abide in this realm. So it is said. There are nine types of extensive explanations. The first example is: Just as the Tathagata, who dwells within an unsightly lotus and blazes with a thousand names, is not seen by those with the eyes of immaculate gods, but is extracted from the bud of the lotus petals. Likewise, the Sugata, even in places like Avici hell, sees the nature of Dharma with the Buddha's eye, and with compassion that abides continuously in the unobstructed future, may he liberate us from obscurations. (310) So it is said. The second example is: Just as honey surrounded by a swarm of creatures is sought by a wise person who seeks that meaning, and having seen it, skillfully separates it completely from the swarm of creatures. The great sage, with his all-knowing eye, sees this essence of lineage as being like honey, and its obscuration as being like bees, he completely abandons it. So it is said. The third example is: Just as the essence of grain with ears cannot be enjoyed by people, and those who seek impure food, they extract it from the ear of grain. That, in sentient beings, is the defilement of afflictions, and the Victorious One is likewise, as long as he is not liberated from the mixture of afflictive defilements, the Victorious One does not act in the three realms. So it is said. The fourth example is: Just as the gold of a very wealthy person falls into rotten filth, and that which is of indestructible nature remains there for many hundreds of years. The god delighted with pure divine eyes, having seen it, says to the person, "This (311) gold that is here, the supreme jewel, should be refined and accomplished with jewels." Likewise, the Thubpa (Buddha) sees the qualities of sentient beings who are sunk in afflictions like impurity, and for the sake of purifying the mud of afflictions, he sends down a great rain of Dharma upon the beings. So it is said. The fifth example is: Just as in the house of a poor person, underground, there is an inexhaustible treasure, but that person does not know it, and the treasure does not say to him, "I am here." Likewise, in the mind
