Is everything said to be emptiness? If it is thought that extensive explanation is unreasonable, it is not so. Just as the self-nature of the sun is empty of darkness, but its rays are naturally complete and not contradictory. What is distinguishable and separable is empty of all defiled dharmas, while the self-nature and non-distinguishable Buddha-body and wisdom, etc., are not empty of all qualities. As it is said in the Uttaratantra: "The nature of distinction is empty of adventitious realms, the nature of non-distinction is not empty of the supreme Dharma." And as it is said in its commentary: "What does this show? Because in the Tathagatagarbha, which is naturally pure, there is no cause for defilement to be removed, because being free from adventitious stains is its nature. There is also no cause for manifestation to be established, because the non-discriminating pure Dharma-nature is its nature. Therefore, the Tathagatagarbha is distinguishable, separable, and empty of all aggregates of affliction, while the non-distinguishable, (271) inseparable, inconceivable Buddhas, exceeding the sands of the Ganges, are not empty." Subduing means that awareness has no four maras from the beginning, so it subdues. As it is said in the Kunjed Gyalpo: "Because the Dharmakaya has no birth or death, it subdues the Lord of Death Mara; because there is no aggregate of signs, it subdues the Sign Mara; because it is non-dual, it also subdues the Mara of the Sons of Gods from afflictions; it is originally subdued by itself." Having means that the self-born wisdom of awareness originally has the intention of the inseparable Buddha-body and wisdom. As that sutra says: "The Dharmakaya has vast qualities and doors, complete with the five wisdoms and two bodies." Transcending means that awareness originally transcends the elaboration of existence and non-existence and all phenomenal dharmas. As that sutra says: "The Dharmakaya transcends all extremes." Second, the explanation of the five bodies has three parts: briefly explaining the nature of the five bodies, extensively explaining their self-nature, and summarizing their meaning with the five perfections. The first is that the spontaneously accomplished (272) self-born wisdom, its self-nature radiance, originally abides as the five bodies. As it is said in the Explanatory Tantra:

One body manifests as five families, hence, it is Vairochana. From this, being immutable, it is Akshobhya. Qualities arise without partiality, hence, it is Ratnasambhava. Untainted by impurities, the power of compassion manifests, it is Amitabha, also known as the Lotus Body. Immaculate, unobstructed, and supremely pure, spontaneously accomplishing the two benefits of self and others, the activity is perfectly fulfilled, the body of Amoghasiddhi. Thus it is said. Explaining the expansion of self-nature, there are two aspects: the sphere of the five families, and the situation of the main deity and retinue. First, within the sphere of the self-aware, spontaneously accomplished bindu, the self-nature of the five lights, is the inner realm of the youthful vase body, and from that very place is the base where the Dharmakaya mandala resides. Within the bindu of the pure realm, one possesses five characteristics. The immutable Vajra realm, the gathering of qualities, the Ratna realm, the immaculate Padma realm, the beginningless, stable Swastika realm, the unobstructed, clear, and pervasive space realm. Because the radiance of self-aware wisdom dawns (273), the five vases of wisdom radiance, in the unborn realm, there is no obstruction. Within its nature, there is no gathering or scattering. The five elements of earth, water, fire, wind, and space, the manifestation of its power, the five dharmatas are inherently Buddha. The five wisdoms and the three kayas, the place of residence and the distinction are supreme. Thus it is said. Secondly, in the spontaneously accomplished, densely arrayed, self-luminous pure land, the collection of the five bodies of unceasing compassion is arranged in the place of the perfectly endowed Vajradhara. The essence, emptiness, swirling in the realm of Samantabhadra and Samantabhadri, the five wisdom bodies are unmixed, each clear, self-appearing in the alaya, mirror-like wisdom. From the bindu, all-illuminating, the place of pure, dense array, the dharmata, Dharmakaya, undifferentiated realm, the five vases of wisdom's own radiance, appear as unobstructed, clear sprouts. In the five pure aspects of dharmata, blue, white, yellow, red, and green, the unmixed, clear wisdom realm, within its nature, the five bodies are accomplished. Residing in the four directions and the center, the center is the all (274) illuminating wisdom, the four are universally faced. Akshobhya, Ratnasambhava, the great, Amitabha, Amoghasiddhi, appear great. The mudra, self-nature, abides in the heart, holding the characteristics of the five colors, the three seats are completely fulfilled in nature, the Buddhas of the four types of beings to be tamed.
