Like fire merging into fire, the body loses its warmth. Consciousness dissolves into the expanse of space. Sensation is free from the duality of pleasure and pain. It abides in the all-pervading clarity. Thus it is said. When the elements (423) dissolve individually, the air of the two, air and mind, exits from the lungs into the sky. It does not return, it vanishes. The mind gathers in the heart. When awareness abides for a moment in the primordial purity of the bluish light, one recognizes the intention of the self-abiding Dharmakaya, and merging with it, one attains Buddhahood in the Dharmakaya in an instant. Furthermore, when the elements are gathered, there are two ways of dying: one is to die in the state of Kuntuzangpo, accompanied by sickness and pain, and the other is to die in the state of Kuntuzangmo, without pain. The first is when the air reverses and all diseases gather in the life force, hence the pain. At that time, awareness becomes clear and lucid, and the wisdom of discernment arises. The second is when the bindu gathers in the life force, and the clear light of bliss appears, and recognizing one's own nature becomes a condition for liberation. At this time, the horse of air and awareness separate, and the mind and wisdom turn their backs on each other. Second, the way appearances arise is: at that time, awareness rises from within the heart (424), enters the subtle channel like a white silk thread, and when it emerges from the lamp of the gate of water, the nose rope of Vajrasattva, called the rope of continuous compassion, shoots from the two eyes into the center of the sky, appearing as a rope of white and red light, shimmering and clear. From this, the appearance of the five lights spreads throughout the sky, overturning the cycle of illusory appearances. The pure Buddhafield appears for five days. Third, the way of liberation of intention is: without letting awareness stray from that appearance, focusing on it, one is liberated beyond the bardo, upwards and completely, and one attains one's own place in the womb of the Dharmakaya treasure. At the time of death, the red thread of all the instructions is cut here: knowing the emptiness of space and the expanse, when the nose rope of Vajrasattva appears, without changing self-appearance, focusing on it, one is liberated. As the "Union of Sun and Moon" says: If the expanse and awareness do not change, that person will be without bardo, there is no doubt that they will attain Buddhahood. (425) Furthermore, as the scripture that introduces the Buddha says: Secret Lord, at the time when the elements separate the pure and impure, raising wisdom from the center of one's heart, the light shines outward, in front of oneself.

It is called the seeing and hearing of wisdom in the sky. The five-colored light shines brightly and appears to oneself. Recognizing it is like applying a medicine that turns iron into gold, or like raising a lamp in a dark room, and in an instant, one is completely liberated upwards. Son of the lineage, when one's breath has not ceased, it is also called the nose rope of Vajrasattva, and it is also called the rope of continuous compassion. From in front of oneself, in the sky, five colors of light stretch out like a rope, or like a ladder being erected, it appears from one's own perception. At that time, focus awareness on one's own eyes. By focusing the eyes on the rope of continuous compassion, one is completely liberated upwards. Or, when the rope of compassion arises as five-colored light, the five wisdoms also arise. Having obtained the five-fold (426) mandala, one becomes a Buddha when the breath has not ceased. So it is said. Furthermore, all the clear light of reality, awareness briefly appears at the gate of the eye, and appears as the basis at that time. Since it is connected to this body, it is included in the category of liberation here without the bardo. Therefore, it is called becoming a Buddha when the breath has not ceased. From the Tantra of Introduction and Adornment: Since it is desired to become a Buddha when the breath has not ceased, one should understand it in this way. At the time of one's own death, when the breath has not ceased, reality will appear in the self-appearing sky. In the self-appearing sky of reality, a body like an illusion of wisdom will appear. The wisdom body will appear as a five-fold cluster mandala. At that time, five lights will arise from within one's own self-appearing eyes, and will appear in connection with the five-fold cluster body of wisdom. Secret Lord, at that time, one is meeting with the Mother of Reality. At the time of meeting with the Mother of Reality, focus one's own awareness on the eyes (427). By focusing the eyes on reality, one is liberated into the five-fold wisdom body. Secret Lord, one becomes a Buddha in two instants when the breath has not ceased. In the first instant, one meets with the Mother of Reality. In the second instant, one attains the ground of wisdom itself. Meeting with the Mother of Reality in the first instant means that the body like an illusion of wisdom arises from oneself in the Mother of Reality and the self-appearing sky, and one sees it oneself. Attaining the ground of wisdom itself in the second instant means seeing that the body like an illusion of wisdom arises in oneself in the Mother of Reality and the self-appearing sky, and seeing that self-appearance is non-dual.
