Since it is free from conceptualization, there are no letters. Since it transcends speech, there is no sound. Since it transcends speaking and thinking, there are no terms. Since it transcends the object of expression, it is inexpressible. Thus it should be explained. Fourth, the empowerment of Samantabhadra's spontaneously accomplished nature of reality is: The Lama said: All phenomena are empty and without self, The mind that desires and clings is completely deluded. The very essence of phenomena is free from elaboration, Following after signs and words (119) is completely deluded. The wisdom of the essential meaning arises spontaneously, Thinking that it arises from others and striving to accomplish it is completely deluded. The very nature of mind transcends birth and death, Grasping at birth and death as two is completely deluded. The fruit is self-perfected and free from aspiration, Relying on discriminating awareness and time is completely deluded. All happiness and suffering are the magical display of awareness, Grasping at acceptance and rejection as two is completely deluded. Samantabhadra abides within oneself, Seeking the yidam from elsewhere is completely deluded. One's own being is primordially enlightened, Grasping at the three lower realms is completely deluded. Samsara and the lower realms are primordially manifest as play, Hoping for perfect Buddhahood is completely deluded. The five poisons are not abandoned, but are the great self-arisen, Grasping at afflictions as something to be abandoned is completely deluded. The appearance of delusion is the self-appearance of the Dharmakaya, Grasping at things as real and self is completely deluded. The nine vehicles arise within oneself, Grasping at the tenets of each is completely deluded. The meaning of this is: (120) O fortunate ones! All phenomena, including appearance and existence, samsara and nirvana, are empty and without self from the very beginning, so recognize that they abide in the nature of non-acceptance and non-rejection. If you do not recognize this, but instead cling to and grasp at the self of person and phenomena, and cling to their own characteristics, then due to the continuation of samsara, delusion is your own continuum. The external appearance of things, such as water, fire, and wind; the internal aggregates, elements, and sense bases, etc., are the realm or source that is free from all elaboration, like the sky, so recognize that the self-arisen wisdom of the nature of mind is insubstantial and unobstructed. If you do not recognize this, but instead mix appearance and mind together, and cling to words and terms with a mind of real clinging, then the mind will follow and become deluded. Recognize that the wisdom of the essential meaning is spontaneously perfect in its own nature, and now abides within yourself. If you do not recognize this, now

Though one might think that pure wisdom will be attained later by accomplishing through causes and conditions, (121) it is a delusion because one does not recognize one's own nature. Know that your own mind-essence, which is without any object to be apprehended, is the nature of being without birth or death. If you do not know that and grasp at birth and death, it is a delusion even if you cling to arising and ceasing. Know that the three kayas, which are inseparable and complete in their own nature, are the awareness-emptiness dharmakaya. If you do not know that, it is a delusion to desire to accomplish buddhahood after many kalpas at the end of your efforts. Know that all happiness, suffering, and neutrality arise equally from your own mind, and because they are without essence, they are the magical display of primordially liberated awareness. If you do not know that, but pursue what you desire, abandon what you do not desire, and cling to happiness and suffering separately, it is the nature of delusion because you grasp the nondual as dual. Know that your own awareness is the self-arisen buddha Samantabhadra. If you do not know that, but search for a yidam from elsewhere through conceptual meditation on characteristics, it is nothing other than the habitual conceptual thoughts of your own mind, so it is a delusion. (122) Know that in the essence of awareness, karma and afflictions are primordially purified, and the wisdom of knowledge is primordially expanded. If you do not know that, it is a mistaken thought to apprehend out of fear of falling into the lower realms. Know that in the appearances of self-awareness, the lower is the realm of samsara, the six realms, and the higher is the play of nirvana, the three kayas, which exists in the spontaneously accomplished womb of wisdom. If you do not know that, but cling to samsara and nirvana separately, abandoning delusion, the thought of accomplishing one undeluded truth is also a mistaken delusion. Know that at the very moment the five poisons appear, they are the radiance of awareness-emptiness wisdom. If you do not know that, but cling to taking and rejecting the two in one arising, it is a delusion to desire to completely abandon the five poisons. Know that this deluded appearance of the outer and inner world and its contents is the self-appearance of the empty-form dharmakaya, which has never been established since the flourishing of appearances. If you do not know that, but cling to the self-characterized entities of self and other, rejection and establishment, it is also a (123) mistake to engage in the delusion of self-grasping. The various tenets of the nine successive vehicles and so forth are nothing other than what is imputed by your own conceptual mind. Because the natural state of mind-essence has no high or low and no tenets, it is merely a picture of appearance-imputation-conceptual thought.
