The earth makes its nature completely pure. By training on fragments of phenomena, the image becomes completely pure. The first arises from keeping focus on whatever appears. The intention at this time is called "establishing existence as the basis," meaning that all phenomena of samsara and nirvana, even without training, will naturally arise in the mind. When this happens, the five afflictions transform into the five wisdoms, and the five aggregates abide in the five families, like changing the color of a cloth. This reveals the condition for one person. There are three aspects to continuous meditation: combining meditation day and night, the method of placing the ocean in the palm as its instruction, and the intention of establishing existence as the basis at that time. At this time, afflictions are sealed. There are three ways to take these into experience (366): holding the minds of gods and humans, the samadhi of bodhisattvas, and the intention of the Sugatas. There are three types of bodhisattva samadhi: natural samadhi, which can also arise in unpredicted ordinary people, like the eye of an archer, the eyes of rabbits and eagles when sleeping, and when the mind is dull and distracted. Samadhi abiding on the ground is from seeing the truth of the first ground up to the samadhi of the seventeenth ground, each having its own samadhi. Artificial samadhi is the sleeping yogi. There are two factors that harm the yogi: immediate harm from food and clothing, and long-term harm from entering the three realms based on dreams and habitual patterns. The antidote to this is to train in four sessions of meditation: cutting attachment to food is a session of meditation, cutting attachment to clothing is a session of meditation, cutting attachment to dreams is a session of meditation, and cutting attachment to habitual patterns (367) is a session of meditation. First, cutting attachment to food relies on various essence extractions and on profound dependent origination. The first is cutting off the flow of elements, eating wind as food, which causes diseases of the upper and lower body, and balancing the elements, which is the essence extraction of earth, water, fire, wind, and space, as well as the essence extraction of nectar and jewels, and so on. The second is dependent origination: combining meat, combining stones, combining herbs, and...

Indigo mixture and so on. The merits of those will be clarified in their respective chapters. Cutting off attachment to clothes has two aspects: interdependent substances and meditative winds. The first is three hot medicines, yak gall, added to boiled molasses and drunk to generate heat. The second is to sit in a squatting position, draw air in, fill the stomach with heat, and focus on fire. Then exhale slowly through the nose. This generates heat, which gives rise to non-conceptualization, and no creatures will arise. Cutting off attachment to dreams has two aspects: the key of examination and meditation. (368) Examination is to slow down for a few days and massage the body slightly. Then examine dreams for a few nights. If you dream more of past attachments, it means that past attachments were strong, which is medium. If you dream more of what you are doing now, it is very easy to cut off. If you dream of places you have never been to and people you do not know, it is difficult to cut off. If all three are dreamed of in a mixed way, it means that the three habits are mixed, which is very difficult. Then there is meditation, which is to grasp and purify, transform, and cut off. The first is to first make a wish, and whatever you dream, recognize it in the dream, and contemplate all appearances and sounds as mere dreams. Then seal it with emptiness. Transformation is to transform all appearances into deities and contemplate them. Cutting off is to cut off dreams by meditating on the key of awareness. Among them, the best is to cut off the continuity of dreams, the medium is to grasp dreams, and the worst is to dream of good habits, which is a sign of accomplishment. Cutting off the attachment to the root habit is not to deliberately abandon existence, not to deliberately seek non-existence, and not to be overly attached to existence. Also, do not cut off the past, do not welcome the future, and all present habits, including antidotes, do not rely on the continuum, so appearances are liberated into appearances, and the clinging to things naturally disappears. Appearance itself is liberated into appearance, like a bird being carried away by an eagle. Movement is liberated into movement, like hail in the sky. Luminosity and consciousness dissolve into non-duality, like water dissolving into water. Thus, it transcends the realm of habitual delusion and cuts off the attachment of seeing self. The intention of the Sugata is to transcend the session break, be equal to day and night, and have no trace. Stop clinging to the minds of gods and humans.
