Thus it appears within the pure lamp. Likewise, both outer and inner are the realm of dharma, in the realm of utterly pure conduct, Buddha and sentient beings are non-dual, how could they be transformed by the path? Thus, many such things are taught. How do they appear? Since the realm and wisdom appear inseparably, union is inseparable, clarity and emptiness are inseparable, object and mind are non-dual, this is called the view that is free from the extremes of duality. Moreover, the body mandala of the Vajra Garland Tantra appears, and the two lamps of pure clarity of the realm appear manifestly to the eyes, but since they are not the object of wisdom, this dharma nature arises from direct cognition, perception, and from behind. Thus, countless things are taught. How to practice the eighth point? This explains how to accomplish a special support for the purpose of practice. First, according to the secret mantra tradition, it is necessary to empower those who are not (357) mature in order to make them mature. For empowerment, a qualified lama is necessary. That lama should have a vast view and be skilled in the tantras, generally knowing many secret mantra tantras, and especially knowing how to extract the phurba of the tantras and how to put the words of the tantras into practice. He should be accustomed to and skilled in practice, able to put the four branches of recitation and practice into practice. He should be skilled in protecting and averting the mantras of summoning, cursing, and killing, and have the ability to realize and be skilled in the view, that is, to realize the meaning of the nine vehicles of the outer view. Being skilled in the inner view, he sees the nature of reality directly. He should be skilled in meditation and experience, that is, having abandoned worldly affairs, he practices, abandoning distractions and relying on mountain caves and monasteries. He himself also practices and causes others to practice. Because he has experienced it, uncommon realizations arise, and he is endowed with compassion and bodhicitta. The disciple should also have great faith, abandoning the activities of samsara and not (358) thinking about non-Buddhist things. He should be generous, offering all his possessions to the lama. He should have great wisdom, believing in the Great Vehicle. He should have great devotion, never separating from the lama. He should turn away from attachment to samsara and not let his mind be attached to it. He should have great diligence, striving in practice. Because he has great previous training, he is suitable as a vessel for the Great Perfection. A vessel for the Great Perfection of self-nature.

The one who is suitable: The habitual tendencies of thoughts are small, the conduct is broad, the habitual tendencies of grasping and holding are small, the body and speech are relaxed and at ease, not regarding hardships as suffering, especially having faith in the Dharma nature and the Lama, is a suitable vessel. Thus, the disciple who is a suitable vessel, to the Lama who possesses the signs, offers a mandala of precious gold and so on, and prays, saying: "Please, for me, for three years, seven months, or one month, grant the empowerment." Then he prays. After that, if the Lama agrees, then at that time, one prepares all the favorable conditions. Then, first the Lama, based on the empowerment with characteristics, relies on the mandala of colored powders to empower (359), and bestows the vows and precepts of that. Then, based on the empowerment without characteristics, relies on the mandala and the vase to empower, and at that time bestows the transmission. Then, based on the empowerment of the extremely uncharacteristic symbols, empowers, and at that time points out the key points of the body. At those times, one should offer wealth to the Lama and make a great feast. Thus it is also said: "To the teacher of the oral transmission, offer the names of uncles, parents, and mothers, the essence of children, wives, and wealth, and the things that are most cherished and pleasing." Also, at this time the feast is also important, it is said: "Great compassion is a great feast." Such four empowerments, even if separated by months and years, are not contradictory, and it is also not contradictory to bestow them at one time. Then, one must keep the vows based on the empowerment, in general, keep all that is said in the tantras of secret mantra, especially keep the vows of this that are properly distinguished. Thus, the Lama who possesses vows, to the disciple who possesses vows, empowers (360), possesses blessings, the three gather together, then the attainment of Buddhahood will occur without obstruction. Therefore, the Lama who possesses qualities is especially important, for the Lama who has small qualities and an evil nature, no result will arise, and he will lead to the lower realms. In the Tantra of Secret Wisdom it is said: "The Vajra that does not possess vows, is like a monkey falling off a cliff, both self and others go to the Vajra hell." In "Self-Arisen" it is said: "The teacher who is not examined is the demon of the disciple." Therefore, examining first is extremely important. It is also said: "The disciple who is not examined is the enemy of the teacher." Therefore, before seeing the qualities of the Lama, one should abandon the discrimination of faults. Thus, accomplishing in a special basis, and...
