I am skilled in practice, therefore I understand the meaning of the four branches of approaching and accomplishing. Skilled in realization and view, therefore understanding the meaning of viewing the meaning of all vehicles in general, thereby cutting off the superimpositions of others. In particular, being skilled in the meaning of the direct experience of dharmata, thereby being liberated from the activity of conceptual mind and words. Being skilled in practice and experience means that one's own practice cuts off the superimpositions within what is to be known. Being skilled in experience, therefore being able to liberate the continuum of other fortunate beings (321). What is meant by being free from activities is that the lama is free from worldly activities, relies on a solitary place or monastery, and abandons many retinues and busyness, which is a sign that the activity of dharmata relies on the continuum. What is meant by being endowed with the meaning of dharmata is that one transcends worldly calculations because one is endowed with the meaning of dharmata. What is meant by reaching the standard is that because the dharma is not scattered outwards, all the dharmas that need to be practiced have reached the standard, thereby giving rise to experience. What is meant by not being confused about the meaning of what is desired is that the teacher does not show confusion about the meaning of the dharma that the student desires, which is a sign of previous habituation. Or, it is a sign of enjoying a great treasure. Thus, if one possesses these five characteristics, one possesses the characteristics of a lama. The second general meaning, the nature of the lama, is: the behavior of the body is slow and steady, the behavior of speech is honest and straightforward, and the behavior of the mind is samadhi without distraction. If one possesses such a nature, one is called a Vajradhara Lama. The third general meaning: the order of how to respect the lama is: when seeing the lama (322), seeing and prostrating has the necessity of manifesting the Buddha-field. Constantly offering a mandala to the lama allows one to practice on the bodhisattva grounds. Constantly prostrating with a respectful body is equal to the enjoyment of a universal monarch. Constantly circumambulating will love all beings, and all will give happiness. Constantly wiping away dust will possess the vajra eye. Applying fragrant ointment will enjoy only bliss. Offering one's own body to the lama and becoming skilled in the lama's activities will make all beings become servants. Praising with various praises of speech will obtain the melodious

Through good reputation, one will be born in a completely pure Buddha-field. If one performs the three circles of complete purification to the lama once, all affairs in this life will be successfully accomplished, and in the future, one will be born as a Chakravartin king with a thousand spokes. If done twice, one will eliminate sins in this life, and in the future, one will become the king of a thousand lands. If done three times (323), in this life, everyone will proclaim one's good name and become a place of offering, and in the future, one will attain the Siddhi of the Dakinis. If done seven times, one will accomplish whatever one desires in this very life, and immediately after death, one will become a Vidyadhara king, turning the fate of all beings upwards. If one does it as many times as one's age, in this very life, one will accomplish the Vidyadhara who has mastery over life, and one will abide as long as one lives, eliminating the afflictive thoughts of sentient beings, subduing beings with various miraculous powers, and ultimately attaining perfect enlightenment without any doubt. Furthermore, even if one offers a piece of cloth to one's lama with seven kinds of purity, in the future, one will enjoy a treasure trove of jewels. Thus, in the Tantra of the Origin of the Ocean of Ambrosia, it says: Even if one were to offer to the Buddhas who fill the sky, adorned with various jewels, filling the three thousand worlds, (324) it would not be comparable to smearing a single drop of ghee on a single hair of the lama. In short, by pleasing the lama through various actions, such as standing up when the lama rises, joining palms, laying out a seat when the lama sits, offering a mandala, and covering one's mouth with one's hand when yawning or spitting in the presence of one's lama, in short, by treating the lama like a new bride, one will breathe in the realm of manifestation. Furthermore, by holding the lama in one's heart like one's own beloved son, blessings will arise like a wish-fulfilling cow; by treating the lama like a timely meal, blessings will arise like food and drink for the hungry and thirsty; by relying on the lama without distraction like a sick person relies on a doctor, one will constantly enjoy bliss. Similarly, like a guide on a dangerous path, like a lamp in a dark room, like a wish-fulfilling jewel, with various means
