I, without separation, the senses such as the eye, objects and object-possessors, abandoning all consciousness, is precisely not falling to any extreme. The views of other schools and the Garland of Lights, these two, do not mix as one, but keep them separate. It is not to make them into a union. In order to stabilize consciousness, imprison awareness in the expanse (284). This is to point out the key points of previous meditation. In order to stabilize the body, train your own body in various postures. In order to stabilize speech, always abide as if dumb. In order to stabilize the mind, always look at the Garland of Lights. This is to show that one should turn one's back on worldly affairs with body, speech, and mind, and practice, but it is not to cut off virtue and let the three non-virtuous body, speech, and mind run wild. In order to cut off the illusion of appearances, one should become accustomed to emptiness. This means that from the appearance of empty forms, the expanse of awareness, to the appearance of phenomena and suchness in the mind, everything should be practiced as free from elaboration, empty, and without interruption. It is not to say that empty forms are real, that this Buddha is oneself, and that this appearance is also wisdom, so clinging to it will not help. In short, in order to realize the emptiness that possesses all the supreme (285) aspects, all this is said. It is important to explain the signs and measures for grasping the warmth of the path. In this, it is important to see whether the yogi is seen by others outwardly, and whether one has attained the measure of realization inwardly, and whether the three signs of the appearance of the expanse of awareness are complete. If these three are not complete, then even many deities of empty form will not help, even great wisdom will not help, even if miracles occur in the body will not help. Although it is widely said in the tantras and instructions, it is not elaborated. Without understanding the key points of practicing in this way, some say that Dzogchen is non-doing, and then let the body and speech afflictions run wild; some say that good and evil have no benefit or harm, and then abandon virtuous deeds and engage in evil; some say that seeing the empty form, the expanse of awareness, is Buddhahood, and then curse the wisdom of omniscience; others say that emptiness cannot be thought (286), and then abide in ignorance; others say that the Buddha's lineage is awareness, etc.

And some say, "This is conceptual thought," thereby scolding emptiness; some say, "Mere emptiness can attain Buddhahood," thereby enjoying worldly things. In short, there are countless instances of clinging to one aspect or another, but all of those are just inversions of wrong views, corrupt aggregates, extreme views, and ignorance, and are therefore possessed by demons. The intervening verses, the sixth root, are: This speaks of skillful means and wisdom inseparable, endowed with diligence. Whatever is free from abandonment and attainment, endowed with all perfections, that should be attained. Do not speak evil words to others, if after seeing perversion, if someone speaks to us, harboring wrong views and accepting them, it may happen, please be patient, even if the mind is not calmed by that, then they will fall into hell. Adorned with boundless skillful means, is the intention of the self-born ones. The fourth fruit is the three bodies abiding in the ground, the three of essence, nature, and compassion. Using that as the path, until what is the function of those three. That which becomes the fruit is the purification of all confusion, therefore it is extensively taught in the scriptures, and will not be elaborated here. Those are explained here incidentally. Having been taught and known in this way, practice it: Always without a home, wander in the mountains. This refers to abandoning activities and relying on solitude. At night in one's own dwelling, observe and examine as during the day. This is the yoga of darkness, having understood the key point of mortgaging the ocean, meditate. During the day in the mountains like a wild animal. This refers to being fearless of anything. A person who acts in this way is called Samantabhadra Buddha and Vajrasattva. Therefore, practice is essential. After that, the scriptures and signs of the progressive increase of appearances should be combined and examined in sequence. This is to reveal the meaning of the direct perception of awareness, which is the ninth (288th). After that is the summary of the support and contradictions of awareness. The summary of benefiting others, the summary of awareness, the summary of the three bodies, the summary of view and conduct, the summary of the single essence, the summary of virtue and vice, etc., are the support for generating certainty in the Vajra Garland of Awareness. Therefore, the root and Vimala's commentary should be combined and explained. In order to understand the general meaning, having bone marrow letters is essential. The only son of the teachings.
