Look with wide open eyes. Say, "The sky is so vast!" Say this three times. The meaning of these words is: The lama extending his right hand signifies the manifestation of samsara; retracting his left hand signifies the appearance of the past; it is a symbol of acting freely and at ease. Extending a finger and placing it on the eyes (205), looking in the four directions, is a symbol of the manifestation of awareness, a symbol of the increase of experience, a symbol of awareness reaching its limit, a symbol of the exhaustion of dharmata; it is a symbol of these four manifestations arising in sequence. Extending a finger into the sky is a symbol of awareness appearing in the sky like a thread. Looking with wide open eyes is a symbol of the way of looking being like this. Saying "The sky is so vast" means that by doing this, the appearance will disappear by itself, thus giving rise to the appearance of wisdom. These words show the key points of the main practice, and when such symbolic empowerment is performed, the experience will increase even more. If it does not increase, the lama will explain these symbols and explain them according to each person's experience. Although it is said like this, these symbols are explained here incidentally. The subsequent actions are: performing a tsok offering, giving torma offerings, and making donations. After that, if introducing or giving a higher empowerment, then the wise should perform a three-day settling ritual. After that, one should also practice the preliminaries of guiding the mind. (206) Thus, the key instructions of the six gates of view, meditation, and conduct for oneself and others have been taught. One should tame the mind, and then prophesy and liberate through the empowerment of utter non-elaboration. The empowerment of utter non-elaboration was composed by the master Garab Dorje, and mixed with the appendix of Vimalamitra, and compiled by Rangjung Dorje. It is complete! The empowerment of utter non-elaboration is complete. Homage to the detached, spontaneously accomplished one! Now, I will explain the empowerment of utter non-elaboration, which directly shows the characteristics of the mind. For the person who has previously completed the three empowerments, in the morning, first arrange the offerings and tormas. On a flat and round mandala, place golden ornaments and offer them to the lama. In order to generate the appearance of wisdom, the lama faces east. In order to make the appearance of the world disappear, the disciple faces west. Sit comfortably, and do not let the mind wander elsewhere, but with one-pointed

May the practitioner (207) think, "I shall realize the meaning of unborn nature." Then, the lama asks, "Child, who are you?" The student replies three times, "I am the only son of fortunate mind." Again, the lama says, "Since that is so, enter this mandala of mind-essence, which has never been born from the very beginning!" Thus it is done. Then, prostrate to the lama and supplicate: "Alas, Vajra Holder! Please have great consideration for me. I have remained for a long time in the three realms of samsara, and my memory has faded. In order to transcend samsara itself, I also make requests to the lama. For many hundreds of thousands of kalpas, I have repeatedly wandered in samsara. The self-arisen wisdom of Vajrasattva, because the root has been severed from myself, arises from the mind of the Buddha. Please show me the sacred heart." Say this three times. Then straighten the body. Join the palms together. Focus the mind on the lama and keep awareness unscattered, holding the mind in one-pointed concentration. (208) Then, at the moment when thoughts are present, the lama suddenly speaks with force, saying, "What is mind?" three times. The experience of awareness is: "It is neither this nor that, it is immeasurable." That meaning, which is difficult to express, will arise in the student's being. At this moment, past thoughts cease, future thoughts have not yet arisen, and present awareness is clear and non-conceptual. The recognition of the moment, the appearance of external objects, the internal aggregates, and the intermediate faculties cannot be found even if one searches with conceptual thought. Recognizing and settling into the self-arisen lamp of wisdom, which is without birth or cessation, is the actual empowerment. This purifies the defilements of the mind, and for the sake of the fourth, co-emergent, arises as trekchö. Then, have the student who has been prophesied look to the east and assume a lion-like posture, with the knees slightly lowered to the ground. The soles of the feet should be together. Place the hands on the outside of the knees. Push the buttocks back slightly and straighten the spine. (209) Keep in mind the unborn nature of reality. The lama says this: "Emaho, only son of fortunate mind! In the east, there is the pure land of Manifest Joy, which is very beautiful and pleasing. There, the perfectly complete Buddha, the Bhagavan, is called Vajra Akshobhya."
