By what means did you stay, and a small portion of realization arose. The mind also seems empty (685), in summer, it's enough with leaves and dry tsampa. In winter, it's enough with grains and so on. Virtuous deeds and so on seem to be increasing. Without craving for food and clothing from alms, I thought of spending time only with virtuous deeds. In that Zharmishar (ཞར་མི་ཤར་) cave, Respa Samshé (བསམ་ཤེ་) and I, two Dharma brothers, stayed together. We made grain into tsampa and calculated that three bre could last for three months, so he practiced essence extraction for one month. I chewed a small handful of tsampa, and there was still enough tsampa left for a bowl. Virtuous deeds also naturally increased. Because our cave was small, we went to collect the fruits that fell from the trees. His dwelling was also the same, he filled a small bag with everything and carried it away with soil, saying that things taken from there should be returned there, and that it was terrible like us. You seem to be able to attain the Dharma, people like me cannot (686), he said. He requested Reschung's (རས་ཆུང་) oral transmission and Tummo secret practice from Chöjé (ཆོས་རྗེ་) Köndorwa (དཀོན་རྡོར་བ་), and thus wore only one cotton cloth. In the mountains during the New Year, in the cold months, when saliva spat from the mouth froze in the air and scattered on the ground, three or four of us Dharma brothers blew air to warm ourselves. We two became strong, and our body heat could withstand the cold, so Respa praised, "The root is very good," and Chöjé was also pleased. From then on, without interruption, I practiced the Tummo yoga, and my body became different from before, lighter, etc., and some qualities arose. Later, without interruption, I practiced the twenty kinds of inner and secret Tummo of the Six Dharmas, the thirty-two activities of Lamdré, and the four kinds of immortal Tummo, etc., and my strength greatly increased, so I had deep faith and felt happy to do it, he said. In Pangpo Ding (སྤངས་པོ་སྡིངས་), Chöjépa (ཆོས་རྗེ་པ་) Tölung (སྟོད་ལུང་), because a lama was invited to give teachings, it seemed that many Dharma teachings would be given (687). I requested to be taken along as an attendant, and thus was able to enter the Dharma, he said that it was better to stay in the monastery. To enter the Dharma, it seems that one must drink the water of the monastery. I vowed not to eat anything else. I myself also have a gold leaf, and also a small bag of nectar pills. When I went to Kha (ཁ), I also made pills. After these two things are used up, there are also tormas (གཏོར་མ་) and ting shags (ཏིང་ཤགས་).

He also asked her to lead the way, (she said) then other women will be watching, you go first and wait for me. (The other women) pretended not to notice and left, then scooped up a little water on the road, about two and a half loads of grain. After grinding those, he ate some pills, and the patient also bought that gold, which was used for the needs of the Dharma, and he also received great Dharma benefits. Eating pills, (because) others felt it, and he also gave portions to the hungry, so the accumulation of merit (688) also increased, (he) said. When asking for Dharma, even if there are no resources, should one still bring them? It is difficult to make a living. As for me, if I had food and clothing, I would bring them, if not, I would rely on whatever came my way. From the age of twenty-three to forty-three, before the Palden Ding Monastery was built, I was a wandering beggar. I met as many lamas as I could, asked for as many instructions as I could, and practiced as much as I could. In short, I ate whatever I could find and wore rough cloth. Apart from that, relying on a dog skin rug, the lamas cared about me, I received great Dharma, I got along well with my Dharma friends, and I didn't need to accommodate anyone, good or bad, near or far. Wherever I lived, I didn't need to be attached or hateful, so my practice increased and I was naturally happy, (he) said. After becoming the lama of Palden Ding Monastery, it became difficult to do, having to consider the feelings of officials and others, good or bad, monks arrogantly practicing wrongly, friends suppressing each other (689), relatives complaining on the sidelines, the coming and going of patrons, male and female, harassment from bad people, etc., and unhappy things started to appear. Even when asking for Dharma, because the lama's name was similar, most people found it difficult. Inviting the lama to the monastery, or going ourselves, etc., doing our best, which also benefited the Sangha and patrons, male and female, and incidentally did pure things, (he) said. Tell me everything you have, that will be enough. My body has been nourished by the Dharma like it has been smeared with black oil, but there is no special pursuit. After that, using the lama's name to ask others requires many material conditions, and it is also difficult to have the complete connection between teacher and disciple, so it is better to say it here, it is best to say it now, (he) said. Don't lie around like dead people.
