Feeling at ease, a special experience of non-attachment arose in my mind. Even when I woke up, I didn't separate from that experience for a long time. It must have been a blessing. Without much effort, I was able to hear the profound Dharma from the lamas and spiritual friends. Then, when I arrived at Samye Monastery, I thought that there was no need to generate (afflictions) in my mindstream. As I was about to not go to the autumn alms gathering, a Dharma friend said, "It's better to go to the alms gathering." So I went to the area above Rong and below Samye, and found about five loads of grain. I used it to sustain my life. Now I felt that there was no need to be attached to my homeland, so I thought I had to go to an unfamiliar place. In (638 AD), I started on the road to go to Ü-Tsang. My Dharma friends said, "Don't go without a companion, it's better to stay." (I thought) When I came from my mother's place, I came without companions or clothes. Now, at the time of death, I will have to go alone without companions or status. What's the use of companions? I carried a rough cloth bag and left. At the gate, I met the younger brother of the patron Geshe of the eastern gate, named Donyo Sangpo, who was coming out carrying a large volume of the Prajnaparamita Sutra. We met. I made very good auspicious connections, and then went in the direction of Ü-Tsang. When I arrived at a valley, I thought I should go to see Lama Orgyenpa, but I heard that Lama Orgyenpa had gone to Drigung and was not there. So I didn't go to Orgyenpa, and thought I would go to see Chöjé Pachenpo. As I was climbing a mountain, a person came down from the upper slope carrying a baby. I thought I should check the auspicious connections, and when I looked, the baby (639 AD) was full of gold sand in his stool. I asked, "What is your name?" He said, "My name is Guru Kyab." I thought the auspicious connections were good, so I climbed up. When I reached the pass, I saw the monastery. An extraordinary faith arose there, and as I went up, my own Dharma friends from Tsetangpa, who had arrived earlier, recognized me and sent someone named Chönyi Rangdröl to greet me. I thought the auspicious connections were good, and I felt very happy. My Dharma friends had not yet met Chöjé.
