Therefore, in order to let the power enter, one should request the empowerment again from one's own guru; if the guru is not present, one should visualize one's own guru residing in the sky, and receive the empowerments that are without elaboration from him, and pray to the gurus of the lineage; in order to purify defilements, one should become proficient in the three syllables (seed syllables); in order to generate the meaning of non-duality in the mind, one should meditate on the samaya of the five wisdoms; in order to turn away from samsara, one should meditate on impermanence in the continuum; in order to follow the code of conduct, one should strive to practice the twenty-one actions to be done and not to be done; in order to remember the meaning of the view, (367) one should seal it with emptiness, etc., these are the preliminary activities of the guru. Thus, after the guru has completed the preliminary stages of approach, for the disciple who has faith, in order to liberate him from samsara, he should teach the instructions for meditating on impermanence in a secluded place, and have him meditate, having him meditate for five days, or seven days, or eleven days. Having meditated in this way, it is certain that strong faith will arise, and weariness of samsara and laziness will occur. Then, the Vajra Master explains the faults of samsara and the qualities of the Buddha, and the master and disciples go to a very secluded place for the empowerment without elaboration, and the entire room is sprinkled with various fragrant scents, and a round mandala is made, making it as smooth as a mirror, and in the center of the mandala, a very beautiful crossed vase is drawn with colored powders, red (368), with decorations and a neckband, and the edge of the circle is surrounded by a fence of five colors; on the east side of the mandala, on a wooden throne, three precious vases are placed that are not broken, not damaged, and not dented, filled with various medicines, various grains, various jewels, milk, and butter, etc., and decorated with trees bearing flowers and fruits, and the necks are tied with three pieces of white cloth that are spotless and have intact edges. Thus, on top of each vase, three mirrors, three peacock feathers, and three agates should be placed. Then, all the disciples are taken out to bathe and wear new clothes.

Adorned with ornaments and so forth, sit properly in the row with palms joined. To pacify the obstacles of demons, the activity master sits with the smoke of gugul. Then, for the sake of the empowerment without elaboration, offer a jewel (369) golden mandala and sit respectfully with palms joined. The characteristics of samsara should be shown. To this, the teacher says, born in Jambudvipa, which is particularly superior among the continents, obtained the precious human body which is difficult to obtain, possessed the five faculties which are difficult to complete, abides in the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha which are difficult to encounter, and having encountered the precious Dharma which is difficult to encounter, if one does not practice Dharma, one's life will be in vain. Therefore, in this life, one must obtain the perfect precious Buddha and lead all sentient beings through compassion. Therefore, one must obtain it in this life. Having generated such a thought, one must enter the path of maturation. By abiding in the means of liberation, one desires to attain Buddhahood in the end. Therefore, for those who are not yet mature, one must fully receive the four empowerments in order to mature, so please request this. If this does not succeed, then one must obtain the instructions without elaboration (370) and practice them. Then, remembering the nature of samsara, enter into recitation. Moreover, in order to reverse from the nature of samsara, one must be free from attachment to samsara. All dharmas are like dreams, like illusions, like emanations, like cities of gandharvas, like lightning in the sky, like rapidly spinning wheels, and are illustrated by many examples. By the meaning of this, one is free from attachment to samsara, so there is a need to abide in the higher meaning. Again, starting from generating disgust for samsara, the nature of samsara is to be free from desire, so the fault of attachment to samsara should be abandoned. Samsara is like the appearance of a whirlpool, like a moth entering a blazing fire, like a bird entering a net, like a wild animal entering a cage, like a ship breaking its rope in the outer ocean, like being trapped in a great swamp that is difficult to cross (371), like losing one's way in a terrifying ravine, like being trapped in the midst of executioners, and so on.
