To completely cut off means not to arise again later. Knowing this way, one can destroy the dharmas that are thought of in the mind, and thus recognize the place where life vanishes. If one realizes and recognizes this, there will be no return to the three realms. This is the second key point, that Dzogchen is free from action, with nothing to be abandoned or accepted. Now, the third key point is to refute, with logical reasoning, the arising of conceptual thoughts of the mind (192), like cutting meat. Because it is established that it appears as various memories and awarenesses. Memory and awareness reside in the deluded mind, so why would one think that by examining various dharmas, one can obtain happiness from it? The mind is a delusion arising from memory and conceptual thought. If the mind, like memory and conceptual thought, is sudden, then it should also be thought that memory and conceptual thought are dharmata or happiness. This is unreasonable. If the mind vanishes like the flow of memory and conceptual thought vanishes by itself, then the happiness arising from the mind will also vanish. If memory and conceptual thought do not vanish, then happiness cannot arise from the mind. One cannot find a mind that is not memory and conceptual thought. If one finds it, one cannot avoid the fault of the mind becoming a substance. If one says that the mind has no arising, then it is unreasonable for happiness to arise from no arising. If one says that the mind itself is dharmata, then because of the vanishing of memory and awareness, the nature of the mind is empty. Even if it is just the name of the mind, there is no deluded object of knowledge (193). Why say that the mind is dharmata? In this way, if each school believes that the mind is dharmata, then just as the mind enters different objects, dharmata will also enter. If it enters, then dharmata has no essence. If it does not enter, then saying that the mind is dharmata violates one's own vow. If one says that because the mind has no arising, it becomes dharmata, then just as the mind scatters to different objects and pervades all objects such as the five senses, dharmata will also pervade. If one says that the object itself is dharmata, then why? If one says that because the object has no self-nature, it is dharmata, then this is obvious. In this way, whether in dharmata or in the object, it is not appropriate to regard the mind and dharmata as dual. If such duality arises, then one's own mind will also arise from another. The arising of another from another will become endless. It is not like that, but the mind arises from wind, and conceptual thought arises from the mind (194). Conceptual thought

Why is it said that all sentient beings have the fruit of samsara? It is because the initial air, its propelling karma is not purified, therefore it transmigrates in the three realms. Now, the connection of body and mind is also maintained by air, and ultimately, in the evil realms and so on, consciousness relies on air and transmigrates, thus performing various karmas of samsara. When the air is exhausted, whatever past karma there may be, it all returns to the nature of reality. If one can realize that awareness is inherently pure, then air is merely a movement, and ultimately liberated into the nature of reality. If one does not realize that this movement inherently vanishes, then because there is no essential point, there is nothing other than the nature of delusion. Thus, the third general meaning, relying on the words of supreme distinction, shows the reason for being superior to other vehicles, and is explained in three parts. Now, the fourth general meaning is explained, which is to liberate from the self-grasping bound by view and meditation, and is explained with four branch meanings. First, view and meditation (195), explaining the measure of effortless: When looking, the basis for seeing the essential point in both inner and outer is found by one's own mind, which is the nature of reality beyond view. Samsara is long, etc., is explained in detail in the text. This is the first inner meaning. Now, the second inner meaning is explained, which is to liberate by relaxing the mind itself, which cannot be meditated upon: If one does not meditate with conceptual thoughts and actions of the mind, but abides without fabrication, then that itself is the liberated mind. Why bind this mind with one's own desires for view and meditation? Because, the actions of Dharma can also lead one into the three realms, and the actions of samsara can only lead one into the three realms. For example, the shackles of rope and the shackles of gold are the same in terms of binding. Therefore, if the mind is free from the extremes of action and non-action, then whatever fabrication arises is a binding. Therefore, the mind itself, which is the single one, free from the proliferation of many, relaxing, etc., is explained in detail in the text (196). This is the second inner meaning. Now, the third inner meaning is explained, which is that knowing one thing, everything is liberated, including refutation: If one can realize that a single thought suddenly vanishes, then samsara and nirvana are both liberated into the nature of reality. This is the essential point of the supreme guru's words, liberated by skillful means. However, the common vehicle chases after samsara and nirvana, because it does not know the true place where a single thought suddenly vanishes, therefore neither samsara nor nirvana is grasped. Whatever the mind sees ceases, etc., the four sentences are explained in detail in the text.
