If it exists, how do we know this is the body from the previous life? If you say that one mind can take different bodies, what proves it? It is impossible to know. If you say that just as bodies are different, minds are also different, then it is unreasonable for one to arise from another. In that case, water would also arise from fire. It is clear that it is impossible to arise. If the body and mind of the previous life are the same, then karma and its maturation are not true. There would be no need to make efforts such as doing good. Therefore, it is known through scripture and reason that the body of the previous life is not this one. As it says in the Essence of Gold: "The mind does not abide in the body (168), yet it pervades all. Because the mind is without a place where past and future mix, it is without support." And again, in the Great Array: "If you have not been liberated by the key point of the mind's entry, the past is not true, and this body is not the present." Therefore, because awareness has no name of arising, believe that the present body is not the previous body. And because the future is not true, liberation comes simply from knowing the key point. If the body of the previous life is this present one, then if there is a past and future, it would become one lifetime, because in the future, the body and mind would also be this present one. In that case, just as the mind does not die, the body would also go along without dying. This is unreasonable, because after the body and mind separate, the body is regarded as an object. Therefore, knowing the key point of vanishing, it is impossible for the future to enter the body, so the future is not true. Therefore, because appearances are liberated in the moment of appearance, there is no need to modify one's own appearances. And because awareness is liberated in the moment of change, there is no need for remedies for sudden thoughts and ideas. These (169) are fundamentally the body and mind repeatedly connected, the root of samsara will disappear, because the body is not awareness. Therefore, there is no need to strive in view and meditation. Therefore, apart from this, it is impossible to be liberated from suffering by the body and mind being united in samsara. For that reason, the wheel of thoughts and ideas of the mind is sudden, so knowing the characteristic of its vanishing, it is impossible to enter other changes, so it itself is wisdom. Its distinction lies in knowing that the bodies of past and future lives are not true. The key point is that because the qualified lama says that the body of the previous life is not this one, the body and mind are not connected. And because the present thought is sudden, liberation comes simply through it, even if it arises, it is self-arising and self-liberating.

If one uses immature wisdom and adorns it with artificiality, one cannot be liberated. This is because it is understood from the transformation of wisdom. Therefore, the scriptures also say: "When the Vajra Sun firmly arises, memories and thoughts suddenly dissolve and liberate themselves. Self-born wisdom is not liberated by artificiality." (page 170) The Essence of Gold also says: "It does not arise from the lama, there is no connection, body and mind do not coexist. If memories and thoughts cease here, then where does artificiality arise from?" This is because of this reason. The method of practice is to show the self-perfected practice with the complete limbs of a lion. In particular, by practicing what is an object and what is not an object, the flow can be cut off at the same time. That is, by practicing the practice that conforms to the key points and establishes reality to the standard, one can be liberated from the various phenomena of nominal designation. For example, how is one liberated? Just as King Ligarta was liberated from the curse of the Brahmin, without fear, frivolity, and shame, therefore the mind is at ease. In this way, with the key points, with the key point that body and mind are not related, the key point that the bodies of previous and future lives are not real, the root of which is here, recognize at the boundary where memories and thoughts dissolve themselves. So, where does this arise from? By the method of destroying the house of the mind, the causes and conditions are emptied (page 171), not abiding at the edge of the two extremes of birth and death, this is the key point of the infinity of what is to be known. That is, destroying and being non-existent, non-existent and appearing, if one does not recognize the place of disappearance, then all those who become Buddhas can only enter the path of suffering. Therefore, the Golden Void says: "If you bring suffering into the path, happiness will naturally arise." Therefore, being skilled in the place of arising of the mind, one can transcend the totality of samsara; being skilled in the place of dwelling of the mind, one can exhaust the causes of memory and thought; being skilled in the place of going of the mind, one can sever the connection between samsara and nirvana. The key point is that knowing the absence of mind, one can empty the root of samsara and nirvana; knowing the place of disappearance, one can be free from any help and harm; knowing emptiness, one can stop both samsara and nirvana at the same time. The cause of the disappearance of knowledge arises suddenly, and because it disappears suddenly, it is not contaminated by anything. The condition of disappearance is self-purifying, therefore it is liberated from clinging to objects as real. (page 172) Not abiding at the time of disappearance, therefore in all directions without fixed characteristics, disappearance itself is self-liberation, therefore it does not depend on other antidotes at all. The place of reliance is the six key points, and the way of liberation.
