Without understanding liberation, therefore, when the mind looks at the mind, there is no trace. When appearances are liberated within appearances, cyclic conditions arise as the nature of reality, and awareness, awareness is liberated within movement. The key point is that thoughts and conceptions vanish into their own nature, and the mind does not know where it ends, so these do nothing other than bind one back into the three realms. Furthermore, being bound by the act of adorning the body with various ornaments, and the act of leading the way with various limb movements in places like charnel grounds, does nothing other than create obstacles to liberation and omniscience; the nature of reality does not naturally arise. Therefore, without the key point of severing the clinging to the many thoughts that arise from appearances, gathering thoughts and conceptions of objects (149) will lead one into the three realms. Furthermore, relying on mandalas and substances, and relying on empowerment of the body, wanting blessings to arise in the mind, this will again bind one into the three realms. Therefore, without the natural, unfabricated, genuine expanse, mainly clinging to objects of imputation, one will not see the key point of self-awareness. The fifth point, which summarizes these, is that simply relaxing the body, speech, and mind reveals the place where the mind vanishes, and this is explained with four branch points. Now, the sixth general point is that the nature of reality, that is, the key point and measure of relaxation itself, is explained with six branch points, the first of which is: Explaining that adjusting with the key point of relaxing the mind is a mistake: This very mind, which is not bound by anything. This is explained by such statements as: This very mind, which is not bound by any thoughts or conceptions, and which abides in its own state, when placed upon whatever appears, awareness (150) is the cause of cutting, so one should not look. This is called selflessness. That is to say, liberation comes simply from relaxing upon one's own appearances, but if one emphasizes clarity or emptiness in the mind and meditates on it, one will again cling. What is the reason? Because the essence is emptiness, so there is no way to adjust the characteristics. If one adjusts, one will again be bound. This is the first inner meaning. Now, the second inner meaning, explaining that there is no place to take hold in the nature of reality because thoughts and conceptions naturally vanish, is: After entering, and so on. That is to say, the thought that is able to enter all objects and that binds to the rootless ground of one's own mind dissolves into the expanse of the nature of reality, and that is thoughts and conceptions.

It does not abide in the cycle. Because whatever appears, at the very moment of appearance, vanishes in its own place, without any sequence or destination. If one meditates by holding the mind in non-conceptual samadhi, then memory will again rely on the continuum. So, why does memory rely? Because by holding the knowledge of the object of conceptual discrimination within, by holding the attachment to subtle appearances (151) in one's own continuum, memory becomes coarse again. Thus, the second meaning shows that there is nowhere to take hold of the nature of memory and conceptualization vanishing in their own place. Now, the third meaning, relying on the key point of the natural vanishing of memory, is explained with reasoning: That is, one's own body, the agent of the four elements of one's own continuum, and the mind, insubstantial emptiness, not formed by many causes and conditions, the two are mixed and simultaneous. The key is that merely by practicing the oral instruction of severing the connection between body and mind, separating the winds and mind, memory will disappear, this is the nature of things. Then, why visualize A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: A) and Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hūṃ) etc. as the wrathful body? One thing cannot have different images. Thus, the third meaning, relying on the key point of the natural vanishing of memory, is explained with reasoning. Now, the fourth meaning, with the key of one liberation liberating all, shows that all terms naturally cease: If one knows (152) as one nature, then the nature of liberation from all terms, acting is harmful. If the actions of body and speech are separated, and awareness becomes dull and lax, behavior naturally becomes vast, why measure the boundaries of the words of sectarian terms with conceptualization? Thus, the fourth meaning. Now, the fifth meaning shows that it has not transcended the cycle of one self-liberation: The five afflictions are the seeds for attaining enlightenment. Self-liberation does not depend on other antidotes, liberation occurs merely by abiding, why cling to the five paths, the number of grounds, and the desire for antidotes? Thus, the fifth meaning. Now, the sixth meaning shows the place of liberation of the two: Because it does not arise from anything, it is liberated from action. Because it does not go anywhere, there is also no acceptance or rejection. Therefore, it abides anywhere and does not change. Therefore, merely recognizing one's own nature, what else needs to be done? No effort is needed. Thus, the place of cutting off various objects, conceptualizations, and memory.
