Because they are bound by the appearance and emptiness, sentient beings who adhere to the tenets of the common vehicle have no other place to go but to repeatedly wander in the three realms. Therefore, the mind is a collection of various thoughts, ideas, and concepts, and can only wander into various different forms of sentient beings. Thus, because there is only repeated wandering in the three realms, if samsara is not within the scope of the three realms, how could the two, which are beyond samsara and possess the nature of omniscience, exist at the same time? If it is possible, then because the characteristic of samsara is emptiness, the characteristic of transcendence should also be seen (135). If the characteristic of transcendence is seen, how can samsara be established? The two are contradictory, like hot and cold touch. If, relying on the mind, the different forms of the six realms of sentient beings do not abide, then one cannot avoid the fault that one's desired actions and habitual tendencies are not true. Because the connection of habitual tendencies is not severed, this can be understood through scripture and reason. Through the stages of the path, etc., one also relies on accumulating the power of habitual tendencies. Wisdom is accomplished through the wisdom of causeless and traceless results. Even if there is hope of combining the cause (stages of the path, etc.), the result does not remain there, because there is no trace, like writing on water. If one does not understand that the mind is emptiness and the body is material, and that there is no connection between the two, then it is impossible for the basis of the three realms to be empty. This is established by the reason of self-severing connection and baseless foundation. The body is material, it is substantial, while the mind is emptiness, and the two are fundamentally different. First, because the causes are different, there is also no connection of the same cause (136) nature. If the causes were the same, then just as when the body and mind separate, the body abandons this material and becomes a corpse, if the mind also had material, it would also become a corpse, because the mind does not have a material corpse. The connection arising from that is also absent, because the body does not arise from the mind, so the mind is not truly apparent; because the mind does not arise from the body, the body is materially apparent. If the body arises from the mind, then one cannot avoid the fault that the mind becomes material. If the body arises from the mind, just as no one sees that the mind is emptiness and has a cause, no one sees the cause of the body.

These are the types, clearly manifest. If it is said that there is no establishment in ultimate truth, then the assertion that nothing, such as dharma and persons, is established in ultimate truth is a mere imputation. Therefore, if the body is composed of subtle and coarse elements, and the mind is emptiness by nature, and there is a connection between the two that are beyond apprehension, then for what reason is there a connection? This is not reasonable even by intellect (page 137). One cannot distinguish between things and non-things. Nor can one avoid the fault of the sky also becoming a substance. Therefore, the mind is also just a designation, and the body is also just a designation, and there is no visible connection between the two. For example, like the sky and an image. Therefore, for those who have mindfulness close to the limit of thought, how do they grasp delusion and non-delusion through the stages of wisdom? Thus, the first inner meaning cuts off the wrong paths of the path and shows the establishment of the root of the mind. Now, the second inner meaning is to establish the nature of liberation without relying on view and meditation, which is shown by arranging and distinguishing understanding, etc. With the arrangement of outer appearances, form appears as dharmata, and with the arrangement of inner form, the aggregates are primordially enlightened, and with the arrangement of secret mind, emptiness is understood to be free from causes and conditions, and with the arrangement of suchness words, the meaning of the inexpressible (page 138) is understood. Thus, with the four distinctions of arrangement, one directly realizes, what is the use of contemplating the various dharmas that are designated by names? There are no ununderstood dharmas such as outer appearances. Feelings arising from the mind and their memories naturally vanish. What is the need for views of mind-grasping and attachment, and meditations with objects of focus? Because liberation is achieved simply by knowing the key point or seeing it. No benefit is achieved from binding one's own mind with various kinds of dharmas. Why is that? Because by contemplating actions and agents, one is bound to the three realms by that very thing. For example, it is like being bound by a rope shackle and being bound by a golden shackle, there is no difference in the means of binding. Since the mind is bound by dharma, who else can liberate it? If one realizes that actions and mind are unrelated, O yogi!
