I am that which appears as the arising stage and is directly seen in the perfection stage. These thirteen chapters are the completion of the measure of the text with the words of the tantric text. Secret, the sign of no letters, what is meant by no letters, is it referring to the absence of spoken letters, or is it referring to the nature of things being without letters? If it is said that there is no good or bad speech, and good and bad arise from force, if it is said that there is none, is it referring to something like the absence of letters on paper (297), or is it referring to something like letters written on a slate, or is it referring to the absence of vowels and consonants? In the tantras, there are also seven meanings of words, namely: the essence is the bindu without elaboration. The definitive word is the exhaustion of words and names. Because there are no words to be found in the essence, it is said that the letters established as signs on the words are without letters. There are two types of distinctions: First, in the basis of original purity, there is no key to words. By blocking with the letter "ཀ", all obstacles are exhausted, hence there are no letters. Second, having experienced the arising of dependent origination, the edge of the letters is exhausted, hence it is stopped, hence there are no letters. What is the need for this? For those who think that the awareness of things, its own nature, the basis, can be determined by words, in order to show that its nature cannot be determined by words, and for those who cling to names, in order to dispel their clinging, it is said that there are no letters, that is, it is said that it does not fall into the net of names. For example, when one reaches the top of a mountain, although one sees everything, one is freed from the bondage of the realm. If asked how to show it in the essential instructions, there are three kinds of instructions: the method of abiding, which is to abide in the nature of appearance, etc., and the four that are shown; and the lamp of the pure realm of the Dharmakaya, and the body of the Vajra Garland of Awareness, this is the special secret meaning; and the nature of the testament secret Dharma, although difficult to grasp, is the instruction that is accomplished by the power of excellent wisdom. There are four methods of abiding: the appearance is spontaneously abiding, which is the measure of practice; like the surface of the ocean being calm and clear, it is the measure of abiding and meditating; like the unmoving mountain king, it is a metaphor for a vast foundation and a high altitude, it is the measure of abiding and viewing; awareness is spontaneously self-liberated, which is the measure of the fruit. Thus, the yogi who possesses the four measures of practice is the reality of the ultimate truth, and is integrated with the mind. The instruction of practice is a metaphor for the ability of the mind to transform, thus it is the teaching of the guru, like alcohol; appearance is free from the enemy of arising, like a drunkard; the measure of appearance is the realm of
