Should one settle the mind on what is broken? The distinction between samsara and nirvana is not like that either. Like this, for those who have previously generated bodhicitta, in order to make that bodhicitta firm, one settles the mind on the channels and winds, and in order to make it firm, the guru teaches the essential instructions of the channels and winds, and has them practice (112). As for practicing the essential instructions of the channels and winds, there is no key text. It is not needed because it is clarified from oral guidance. The reason for teaching many essential instructions such as mind training is that this self-nature Great Perfection is easy in method, quick in method, and has many methods, so it is taught. Therefore, in the Great Perfection, it is only taught in words that "the six aggregates are left to themselves." All of those are words without a key point. The essential instruction that becomes a key point is that, like this, the method of becoming a Buddha without abandoning the six aggregates, the key point that is taught from here is: it is taught that stainless experience arises by relying on all sounds, and likewise it is taught that it arises by relying on smells, and likewise it is taught that stainless experience arises by relying on forms, tastes, textures, and dharmas, and if one knows the suchness of sound, one can know the outline and elaboration of all dharmas. (113) The key point is: training the mind by relying on the sound of a flute, training the mind by relying on the strings of a lute, training the mind by relying on the sound of a pot rumbling, relying on a drum and a net-like object, relying on the opening of a pottery, for the fierce ones, the practice is relying on the strings of a lute, relying on the strings of a cymbal, relying on the sound of a bell, relying on the sound of a conch shell to train the mind, and so on, it is taught like this, if the mind is not trained and purified, awareness will not be determined beforehand. The arising of stainless experience by training the mind by relying on forms is: relying on many examples, relying on many interdependent connections, relying on many symbols, and so on, it is taught like this. Smell is training the mind by relying on smells that are pleasing to the mind, such as sandalwood and camphor, and thus stainless experience arises, and training the mind by relying on things that are pleasing to the mind, such as neem and (114) red sandalwood and kalakita wood, and thus stainless experience arises, this is taught as a branch of skillful means. As for taste,

Possessing six tastes, namely the fruit of the tree king called Marata, if a person experiences about one-sixth of it, then for five, seven, or nine days, other thoughts will not enter their mind, and there will be no movement of the body, and the mind will be self-illuminating, and the mind will abide in happiness, and they will become one who remembers the qualities of the Buddhas. Regarding touch, there is a tree called Masali, the king of trees; taking one of its leaves that spirals to the right, touching the heart of anyone with that leaf, the mind will naturally abide in meditation; this is how touch transforms into meditation. The Dharma is the oral instructions of the Lama. Likewise, the yogi of the Great Perfection of Naturalness, without abandoning the five desirable qualities, enjoys them; thus, showing the qualities possessed by the Buddhas is the Great Perfection with many methods. Therefore, it is shown that there is a need to establish the manifest realization of awareness through familiarization and mastery of the mind. What is to be practiced is the key point of the Bodhicitta, and also the secret key to unlocking what is hidden. Homage to the great view of unchanging self-appearance. Thus, by subduing the mind, channels, and winds, in order to clarify the entrance of self-nature through the oral instructions of view, meditation, and conduct, all of this is established with words; therefore, there is a need for awareness to abide confidently in manifestation, cutting off attachment to words. Moreover, since the key to all conduct is the body, conduct is extremely precious. Since the key to all meditation is leisure, leisure of body, speech, and mind is most important. Since the key to all views is the (116) eyes, in order to clarify the eyes, one should warm and contract the vessels, and also milk, the yolk of a black crow's egg, and the outer skin of the wild cherry bark, and the sand of crushed old black and white dzi stones; mixing these together, on the first day of the month and during the dark half of the empty day, at dawn, first wash the eyes and face cleanly with cold water, then apply a poultice of all of these to the eyes, and within that, drink newly milked milk with honey added, then the eyes will not become dim. By doing this, it becomes the key to not separating from seeing the manifest nature. The key to all fruits is the expanse.
