One should practice meditation. Therefore, all actions are transformed into the path of the Great Vehicle, destroying powerful sins (354), accomplishing great virtues, and so on, which is necessary. Seventh, contemplating the true meaning of mind essence, training the mind with the yoga of natural disposition, that is: these various thoughts that appear now, where did they come from in the beginning? What is the nature of the one who arises? Where does it reside now? What is the nature of the one who resides? Where does it ultimately go? What is the nature of the one who goes? Examining the appearing object as atoms, does the mind arise from the object and go? Examining the moment of one's own mind, the one who abides, does it have essence, characteristics, shape, and color? After careful examination, nothing is found, and one enters a state of blankness and indescribability, which is called the view of primordial purity, self-abiding. From the key point, one directly sees the essence, thereby knowing that all phenomena of existence, samsara, and nirvana are rootless and primordially liberated. Therefore, it is necessary to realize one's own mind as emptiness and clarity. Thus (355), it is extremely important to be proficient in the preliminaries. Therefore, one should be cautious and earnest, and with great faith and diligence, practice each object of focus for seven days for the superior, five days for the intermediate, and three days for the inferior. Second, the main practice of recognizing oneself is divided into two: recognizing rigpa as emptiness and unborn, and recognizing luminosity as spontaneously accomplished. The first has four parts: deciding with the view, taking to heart with meditation, removing obstacles with conduct, and abandoning hopes and doubts with the result. The first is: this self-aware emptiness and clarity is free from the elaborations of existence and non-existence. It cannot be found by examination, it cannot be established on any grounds, it transcends the subject of whether it is or is not, although it is not established as "existent," it does not fall into annihilation. Clear, bright, naked, wal-le-wa, the ordinary consciousness remains in its own state, like the sky. The second, taking to heart with meditation, is divided into two: recognizing the self-abiding awareness without modification, and recognizing the self-arisen awareness as great self-liberation (356). The first is: relaxing the body and mind, in the state of mind essence without contraction or expansion, recognizing the uninterrupted radiance of awareness arising from within. There are three examples, five self-natures, and four signs of warmth. The three examples are: without reliance on anything in the outer, inner, or intermediate,

Like a cloud in the sky, settle down. With the cessation of the effort of arising and subsiding thoughts, let the awareness naturally remain in its own state, like a self-grinding mill when water ceases. Knowing the natural state of one's own nature, without the burden of effort and hope, settle down like a liberated person. The five aspects of self-nature are: When settling down in this way, remaining in the natural state, being held by mindfulness, not being swayed by conceptual thoughts, ceasing hope and fear, and being free from dullness and agitation. The four signs of warmth are: By meditating in this way, feeling as if there is no body or mind, feeling as if merging with the sky and becoming one, feeling unable to separate from the joy and bliss born from samadhi, and having no hope or clinging to either samsara or nirvana, the consciousness of Yeshe (357). A deep conviction arises, feeling that the Buddha's intention is right here. By becoming accustomed to these, even without desiring them, qualities such as the eye and clairvoyance and miraculous powers will arise. Second, introducing self-arising and self-liberation: When settling in the single state of natural purity, all the various conceptual thoughts, memories, and awarenesses that arise are introduced as self-arising and self-liberation without a trace. Three examples, five aspects of self-nature, and four signs of warmth. Among them, the three examples are: arising from the play of the naturally pure mind, and the play dissolving into the nature of mind, settling down like waves dissolving into a river. The arising and liberation disappear without a trace, settling down like drawing lines on water. Self-liberating oneself, settling down like a snake's knot. The five aspects of self-nature are: When settling down in this way, recognizing the arising, not connecting previous and subsequent thoughts, naturally vanishing without a trace, being clear and pure with freshness, and being without both distraction and abiding. The four signs of warmth are: By becoming accustomed to these, conceptual thoughts do not harm the abiding of the mind, conceptual and non-(358)conceptual thoughts are equal, the five poisons are purified as they arise and liberate, attachment is pacified like the sky, the meeting of minds liberates without a trace, adverse conditions are turned into the path, and co-emergent and subsequent are blended without distinction, so that meditation continues like a river. Third, there are two ways to clear obstacles through conduct: When abiding in the equanimity of natural purity, appearance and mind dissolve into non-duality, thereby training in the relaxation of the six aggregates, and then knowing that appearance is without inherent existence, thereby the appearance of objects dissolves into non-inherent existence, training in the eight similes of illusion. The first is: When meditating on the liberation of naturally pure appearances, one's own mind abides in non-arising.
