Unborn. No matter what signs appear, they should be understood through the three aspects of selflessness. As stated in the Kunjed Gyalpo Tantra: If you wish to realize my nature, Look at the example of the sky. The essence is that the mind itself is unborn. The sign is that awareness is unceasing. So it is said. Secondly, introducing the unceasing awareness is divided into three (327): example, sign, and meaning. The example is as previously shown: The example of the essence is crystal, the example of the nature is light, the example of compassion is the appearance of rays, like a peacock's egg, transparent inside and out, with five-colored water patterns. The essence dwells in sentient beings, the wisdom of the three parts divided from one essence, is an example of the inseparable three bodies. The example of the radiance that arises from that is, the crystal light shines outward, so that it can be recognized. Secondly, the signs are divided into three: the sign of the essence of the dharmadhatu, the sign of the wisdom of the nature, and the sign of the compassion of awareness. The first is the appearance of a rainbow in the sky, which is also the radiance of the dharmadhatu, pure in nature, clear and empty, free from elaboration, the rainbow is clear and without impurities. The second is divided into three: The radiance of the essence of wisdom, as a sign of abiding in bindu, when the eyes are squeezed, a mass of red and yellow light appears. Through empowerment and purification, it appears red as a sign of purity. As a sign that all the channels inside the body have bindus (328), when severe numbness occurs at night, it appears like sparks flying. The sign that wisdom exists in its own sound is that when the ear canal is pressed, a sound is produced. The sign of wisdom as wind is that when the upper wind is pressed hard, a sound like a cymbal is heard. The sign that wisdom dwells in the body is that when the breath goes into the sunlight, it appears as a rainbow pattern. Especially at sunrise, when facing the blue vitriol water, the breath will appear as five-colored light, which will make you more convinced. Thirdly, the signs of compassion and awareness are divided into two: The sign that the nature of awareness exists in the nirmanakaya is that when looking at the body hair at sunrise, a round light and brocade pattern will appear. The sign of abiding in light is that the breath appears as five-colored light. Thus, relying on the signs, be sure to believe in its existence, just as an image appears in a mirror, understand the sign that you have your own nature.

Third, there are three aspects to the meaning: recognizing the nature of awareness and how it abides (329), recognizing the nature-body, and recognizing the extent of familiarization with compassion. First, the essence of awareness-wisdom is emptiness, the Dharmakaya; its nature is clarity, the Sambhogakaya; and its compassion-awareness is the Nirmanakaya. These three are spontaneously accomplished as one's own inherent quality from the very beginning. The nature of reality, as recognized by the lama, should be decisively determined as a direct experience. Second, there are three aspects: through the instruction on recognizing the Nirmanakaya, it is shown that the present appearance is liberated into luminosity; through the instruction on recognizing the Sambhogakaya, it is shown that the self-appearance of the bardo is the self-arising of the pure realm; and through the instruction on recognizing the Dharmakaya, one repeatedly practices on the ground of the primordially pure nature of reality. In sequence, appearances merge into one encounter, like a harmonious couple meeting in an empty room; the instruction on the penetration of wisdom is like meeting a familiar person in a foreign land; and the instruction on the self-liberation of appearances is illustrated by the analogy of a snake's knot, the disappearance of a wave, or the dissolving of a cloud or (330) mist, and should be practiced accordingly. Third, recognizing the extent of familiarization with compassion means: whatever arises is liberated without a trace, familiarizing oneself like dust in the sky; whatever appears is liberated as self-appearance, familiarizing oneself like the appearance of a dream; and liberation in spontaneously accomplished luminosity, one should familiarize oneself with the arising of the four appearances. Thus, by recognizing through example, meaning, and sign, it is impossible not to recognize the nature of awareness. Furthermore, between samsara and nirvana, there are only awareness and non-awareness. All wandering in samsara is due to not recognizing one's own nature, and all attainment of nirvana is due to awareness recognizing its own nature and being liberated. Therefore, recognizing one's own nature is crucial. Moreover, recognition and the arising of realization with special distinction are simultaneous; obtaining realization and abandoning clinging to deluded phenomena are simultaneous; abandoning phenomena and the cessation of inverted breath are simultaneous; the cessation of breath and awakening on the ground are simultaneous. Furthermore, abandoning the coarse physical body and (331) the arising of self-appearance as luminosity are simultaneous; the arising of luminosity and recognizing one's own nature are simultaneous; recognizing one's own nature and liberation into the expanse are simultaneous. Thus, the essence of the profound and direct heart-essence, which obtains liberation through example, meaning, and sign, is Longchen Rabjam.
