Crush the white thatch root, mix it with Indian amaranth, calamus, asafoetida, 'Tagtu Ngu' (a type of plant), and snake meat, and blend with white honey water. Take a meatball-sized pill on an empty stomach and then bathe. The eyes will become as clear as those of an eight-year-old child, and strength will increase. Mix fireflies, ants, juniper berries, and the yellow eggs of black hens, apply it to the eyes, and recite "Om achen gongchen bahaan shuchen shu, han ga me ton yam" (藏文:ཨཱོྃ་ཆེན་གོང་ཆེན་བྷ་ཧན་ཞུ་ཆེན་ཞུ། ཧན་གྷ་མེ་སྟོན་ཡཾ།) one million times. The wisdom eye will become clear, various lights will appear, and a halo the size of a bowl will appear. Even without other medicine, reciting one hundred and eight times each day will cause the appearances to gradually increase. In this way, through various profound methods, the lamp becomes bright and wisdom increases. For the sake of future generations, I have recorded these, may all beings possess the eye of wisdom! This is the key point obtained from the lama and experienced by oneself. This unerring guidance is very clear. Because it is a helper in observing the meaning in manifestation, it is indispensable, please cherish it with respect. May oneself and others become bright through this lamp, and quickly perfect the meaning of clear light. Therefore, please cherish this method like your heart. Thus written, may the clear light become even clearer! This is the key point of the secret heart essence, the obstacle removal of relying on the door (288), called "The Brightening of the Lamp." Written by the supreme vehicle yogi Longchen Rabjam, completed. The obstacle removal of the mind of awareness, stainless wisdom, abides here. Clouds of pure benefit and happiness, raining down wisdom. I prostrate to the all-knowing chief physician, the yogi who strikes at the key point of clear light, will write the obstacle removal of awareness and wisdom. When meditating on the meaning of the manifest heart essence, the wisdom of each individual's awareness, whose nature is the essence of compassion. When experiencing the radiance located in the heart, awareness is truly unchanging, the inner realm of awareness is inseparable, the state of the three kayas naturally accomplished is the unerring key point. In an instant, one reaches the primordial ground and abides in the empty-clear self-arisen wisdom. Through the key points of the body and restraining the gaze, some beginners, due to dullness and excessive body temperature (289), may fall into sleep and drowsiness, clear

When the wisdom of emptiness wanes, one falls into the darkness of ignorance. Therefore, the method to dispel drowsiness is: sit at the boundary of sunlight and shadow, concentrate your mind, adjust your gaze and look. Sometimes, washing your face with cold water, meditating in a high place with an open sky can dispel drowsiness. Recite "Ha" and "A" frequently, and it is especially important to cherish holding your breath. After that, clear emptiness, clear and unwavering, will arise. Furthermore, if the mind is distracted even when looking at appearances, hold your breath and look outwards with your eyes. Focus your awareness on a single, clear, and radiant white "Ah" (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: A, Literal Chinese meaning: Ah) in your heart. In this way, a clear, lucid, and unobstructed awareness without contraction or expansion will arise. Sometimes, meditating in deep forests and low, dark places is key. Alternatively, if you look at the distant sky but cannot see light, and your eyesight is poor, press the space between your eyebrows with your finger (290), and various appearances will arise. Meditating by focusing on this will clarify the eyes and appearances, which is of utmost importance. Furthermore, if you see elaborations in the experience of appearances and become attached to "Ah," or if you become attached to the experience of emptiness, have faith in the view of union, the inseparability of form and wisdom. Merely suppressing thoughts slightly and abiding in the mind is said to sow the seeds of higher realms, while looking at thoughts with thoughts, without transcending the net of thoughts, is said to be the habit of samsara. Eliminate (attachment) by contemplating these reasons. Furthermore, if you are attached to the experience of appearances, determine that all appearances are like dreams and illusions. Repeatedly practice appearances and emptiness, emptiness without reality. Ultimately, establish that there is no attachment or delusion. Practice seeing all appearances as unreal and empty. Furthermore, if merely looking at appearances only calms the mind, and you become attached without generating a definitive understanding of self-luminous emptiness on top of appearances and awareness, this is the fault of not knowing how to mix appearances and mind. Therefore (291), whatever appears, like an image in the sky, your own appearances are without reality. Transparent and unobstructed, without attachment. Primordial emptiness, without foundation. Combine non-existent appearances with various metaphors and meanings, and practice seeing all external objects of appearance as unreal and illusory. The inner flowing thoughts are also like lightning, but although similar, they cannot be grasped, and should be determined to be like a rainbow in the sky. Practice the meditation of self-luminous mind abiding as the self-nature radiance of awareness, the great liberation of self-abiding, like an image of appearance. Without attachment or clinging to anything, without clinging to reality, like a dream.
