Just as sediment naturally clears without needing to be removed, abide in the state of complete liberation where all dharmas are exhausted. At that time, because one realizes that delusion is actually non-existent, one knows that the three realms of samsara are inherently absent, and the mind feels at ease. Because one realizes that dharmas have no inherent nature, the delusions of various philosophical views naturally disappear, and one no longer clings to dharmas, and the mind feels at ease. Because one realizes that awareness is inherently clear, words cannot fully express the true meaning, so one understands that even if the mind follows words, one cannot attain enlightenment, therefore one does not cling to verbal labels, and the mind feels at ease. These three kinds of ease naturally arise from within. The third point is about the yogi who continuously practices meditation, and there are also three aspects to this. First, regarding how to identify the object of meditation: After recognizing the essence of awareness, without any modification or fabrication, naturally abide in a state free from sinking and rising. This is a state free from elaboration, a radiance that is clear and empty. This wisdom, which is not swayed by concepts and is both aware and clear, is the non-dual meditation of the Great Perfection reality. As it says in the *Superior Samadhi Sutra*: "When abiding in the natural state, there is no recollection. When appearances are recognized, there is no acceptance or rejection. When the stream of mind ceases, there is no consciousness. When there is immediate realization, there is no notion of reality." Like this, constantly abiding in this state is called the meditation of day and night union, because it is the nature that transcends the distinction between samsara and nirvana. Second, regarding the methods of how to meditate, there are three: mind-holding of gods and humans, the samadhi of Bodhisattvas, and the realization of the Sugatas. First, for beginners (397), one should learn to combine shamatha and vipashyana through various methods. This is further divided into seven ways. First, focusing the mind on the white syllable A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A): In a secluded place, sit in the lotus position, and visualize a white "A" syllable at the tip of the nose. When the breath is exhaled, visualize the "A" syllable gradually moving away with the breath; when the breath is inhaled, visualize the "A" syllable gradually shrinking and returning to the tip of the nose. If it feels too hot, visualize it as cool; if it feels too cold, visualize it as having a warm touch. Through such practice, first, the mind will not wander elsewhere, but will focus on one point, which is shamatha. Then, one no longer clings to the "A" syllable as the object of focus, thereby realizing the samadhi that is free from all arising and ceasing concepts, which is the union of shamatha and vipashyana. To eliminate obstacles, focus the mind on the syllable PHAT (Tibetan: ཕཊ, Sanskrit Devanagari: फट्, Sanskrit Romanization: phaṭ, Literal Chinese meaning: Phat): Relax the body and mind, remain in a natural state, and then recite a forceful "PHAT" syllable, so that, without any thoughts, consciousness suddenly becomes clear.

Relax into the state of what has arisen. Meditate until the next thought arises. When it arises, strike it with PHAṬ (藏文,梵文天城体:फट्,梵文罗马拟音:phaṭ,汉语字面意思:啪) as it is, and by practicing, the wisdom free from the nature of elaboration will dawn. To seize the mind with the laughter of the wrathful one (398): Again, relax as before, and when thoughts, happiness, suffering, affirmation, or negation arise, say HA HA 哈!) forcefully and briefly, combining it with the breath, and meditate in that state. At times, with intonation, it dispels unpleasant emotions and disturbances of the winds and elements, and the self-arisen wisdom of reality will dawn. To seize the mind with the strife of the Asuras: On a high place such as a mountaintop, relax the body and mind as before, and for three days, slowly roll the head and body. Then, roll forcefully with all your strength. Focus the mind on the red RAṂ (藏文,梵文天城体:रं,梵文罗马拟音:raṃ,汉语字面意思:让) at the navel. Hold the breath inward. Rely on auspicious food for the breath. External appearances will cease on their own, and you will experience the feeling that nothing has any essence. Emptiness, free from conceptualization, will arise. To chase away conceptual thoughts with HŪṂ (藏文,梵文天城体:हुँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽): Relax the body and mind as before, and when the breath goes out, visualize many HŪṂs (藏文,梵文天城体:हुँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) going out. When the breath comes in, visualize them coming in. Recite a long HŪṂ (藏文,梵文天城体:हुँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) with intonation, and if thoughts arise, recite a short and forceful HŪṂ (藏文,梵文天城体:हुँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) at that time and practice. When the mind is seized, recite HŪṂ (藏文,梵文天城体:हुँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) without thinking, and thoughts will naturally subside, and the wisdom of bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality will dawn in three days (399). To seize the mind with the gradual arising of emptiness: Relax the body and mind as before. The nature of things will dawn from within when you search with your mind in the outer, inner, and intermediate three places of the object to be grasped, the mind that grasps, and the names that are assigned, and you cannot find them. Also, if you break down the five coarse objects that appear and the body into atoms and examine them, you will not find them. The grasped is without inherent existence. If you search for the essence of this mind in the outer, inner, and intermediate three places and cannot find it, the grasper is without inherent existence. The names assigned to self, other, mountain, pillar, vase, etc., if you break them down into atoms and search in the outer, inner, and intermediate three places of those objects, you will not find them. All phenomena, such as grasper and grasped, samsara and nirvana, are merely names temporarily assigned. Understand them as mere conventions. Also, understand that their nature is empty (400).
