Like a young child playing with water waves, it manifests in various states when abiding, and when scattering, it is free from grasping and being grasped. When in equanimity, there is no clinging (358). Although various external objects appear, the mind is not disturbed by the appearance, like the direct perception of the senses. Although various internal objects scatter, they are free from clinging, like the consciousness in a dream. Although the six objects are experienced in various ways, there is no acceptance or rejection, hope or fear, like the consciousness of a young child. Conceptual thoughts are pacified in the field of appearance, like salt dissolving in water. Whatever arises is free from clinging, like a madman without hope or fear. When there is no clinging to the appearance of objects, it is called realizing the emptiness of inner and outer phenomena. The meaning of this is found in the Tantra of the Heart Essence of Liberation from Bondage: "Inner and outer, all conceptual thoughts, are primordially empty and liberated." Thus, if the mind abides, it goes to the primordial state, and if it scatters, it manifests as the play of wisdom. If it is in equanimity, it extends into the realm of non-duality. No matter what is done, it does not go beyond the play of Dharma-nature. At that time, without abandoning conceptual thoughts, liberation is attained from the ground, and confidence is gained that there is no need to make effort for liberation again. Whatever arises is liberated in its own place, and confidence is gained that there is no reliance on mindfulness as an antidote. The six objects are liberated in naked awareness, and confidence is gained that there is no clinging to past and future consciousness. Knowing that good and bad are completely liberated, confidence is gained that there is no clinging to acceptance or rejection (359). As it is said in the Thallgyur: "When all one's conceptual thoughts are gone, one possesses the four great liberations. Primordially liberated, there is no need for correction. Self-liberated, there is no antidote. Nakedly liberated, it vanishes in the seeing. Completely liberated, there is no effort." Thus, the awareness of liberation, or conceptual thoughts, etc., do not arise from anywhere, nor do they go anywhere, like the image in a mirror. No matter how it appears, if it is not grasped, it is free from benefit or harm to the ground. As it is said in the same text: "The practice of liberating one's own mind is not going from one place to another. The mind that is not liberated by anyone is complete from the ground and has no coming or going. It cannot be found by searching and has no cause. Without a foundation, it abides in emptiness and clarity. That mind that abides in self-clarity is liberated by the key point and has no bias. Liberated by time, it has no dependence. Liberated without effort, there is no diligence." In short, the awareness of whatever arises, this awareness that is free from grasping, abides in self-arising, and therefore is liberated in self-liberation. Certain.
