It resides within the primordial ground. The way in which these two knowledges manifest is as follows: When, from the state of inner clarity, wisdom engages with the appearances of objects in outer clarity, although various objects appear, they do not deviate from the nature of the ground from the very beginning, but are seen as the great emptiness. This is the wisdom of knowing reality as it is. It knows the suchness of reality that transcends conceptualization and teaches the dharma of self-emptiness to the realms of sentient beings. The great appearance of the nature of those various objects, without mixing the characteristics of purity and impurity, is the wisdom of knowing reality as it appears. It knows the characteristics of things like reflections in water and teaches the immeasurable distinctions of various vehicles to the realms of sentient beings, such as delusion and non-delusion, and the means of reversing delusion. Therefore, these two knowledges exist as the blueprint within the primordial wisdom of the ground, the inner clarity of compassion. In the nature of inner clarity, the great equality, there is no appearance or establishment anywhere. As it says in the *Thal 'Gyur*: "From the all-pervading wisdom of compassion, the doors of various appearances arise without action. It appears as action, but is complete in its essence. From the nature of the empty essence of the dharmakaya, the part of wisdom that knows is spontaneously manifest to sentient beings. Without this, the center of samsara and nirvana would be severed. Therefore, it is known and clear through knowledge." So it is said. Now, is the awareness of inner clarity at the time of the ground merely awareness, without any establishment, like a thought? Does it exist permanently and unchangingly? Or does it exist completely non-existent? Or do you think it exists in some other way? As it says in the *Klong gSal*: "The all-pervading wisdom of compassion appears as unceasing appearance and emptiness." Therefore, in the nature of the palace of light of awareness, within the object of limitless light, like a peacock's egg, the wisdom of awareness, inseparable from clarity and emptiness, abides. When thoughts have not arisen, like the center of a completely pure sky, or like the consciousness of samadhi at the time of equipoise in the state of clear light, the great non-conceptual wisdom, whose essence is emptiness, whose nature is clarity, and whose blueprint of compassion is unceasing, abides. From the perspective of cutting off beginning and end, the example of the three—essence, nature, and compassion—of the beginning is like a peacock's egg. As it says in the *Thal 'Gyur*:, "When wisdom abides in its own face, the three...

are inseparable. Thus, if analyzed from the perspective of that radiance, in the Mirror of Meaning Clarity, the emptiness of awareness dwells clearly. The clear awareness dwells as the body. The body's awareness dwells in appearance and emptiness. Furthermore, the ground awareness is the Great Primordial Purity. The spontaneously accomplished awareness is the body and wisdom. The awareness of compassion is the uninterrupted continuum. Thus it is taught. Therefore, that initial compassion, the inner clarity of awareness, its essence is non-conceptual, like a cloudless sky, the Dharmakaya. Its nature is like a mirror, clear of tarnish, in the state of omniscience, the unobstructed manifestation of all-knowing plans, radiant, is the Sambhogakaya. In the inner clarity of compassion, dwelling as the king of self-aware wisdom of all-knowing is the Nirmanakaya, awareness empty and unchanging, dwelling as if abiding in the nature of reality. Third, the summary of the meaning is: From the mirror of the mind of Samantabhadra, the wisdom of the Dharmakaya is inconceivable (83), inexpressible state. The wisdom of the Sambhogakaya is clear, with colors unmixed. The wisdom of the Nirmanakaya can be transformed into anything. Thus it is said. In the Jeweled Array it says: The essence does not change in the three times. The nature is always uninterrupted. Compassion shines brightly on all. Thus it is said. In the Pearl Garland it says: Although many ways of abiding are taught, there are three kinds of wisdom. Thus it is said. In short, in the realm of the primordial ground emptiness, without elaboration, the five lights, clear and without grasping, as the essence of compassionate awareness, in a manner without gathering or scattering in the three times, before anything is established in samsara or nirvana, the primordial protector, called Unchanging Light, awareness possessing a house of light. Like a collection of five-colored threads, dwelling in inner clarity. In the Precious Teaching, the Golden Letters, it says: Before arising or being born, the primordial protector is Unchanging Light. The nature is spontaneously accomplished, enlightened, abiding as the great source of all. Like the sky, the ocean, and jewels, it is not annihilation (84), it is the radiant body. It is not permanent, there is no thing. It abides like the sky and a rainbow. It is the great source of all, having become the basis of all, free from vastness, limitation, partiality, and all. It abides in indivisible, spontaneously accomplished manner. Thus it is said. Second, the samsara and nirvana of
