Having all habits naturally purified, realizing wisdom, this is the fifth bhumi, meaning to overcome the difficult-to-cultivate bhumi. Then, seeing the body of ashes from light, this is the sixth bhumi, meaning to overcome the manifested bhumi. Then, with practice perfected, the seventh dharma of abandoning afflictions far away, meaning to overcome the far-gone bhumi. Then, with qualities (455) perfected in that state, this is the eighth bhumi, meaning to overcome the immovable bhumi. Then, with practice perfected, remaining unmoving in those qualities, this is the ninth bhumi, meaning to overcome the bhumi of good intelligence. Then, with knowledge grasping the appearance of wisdom, and the appearance thoroughly arising, like seeing a cloud of dharma, this is the tenth bhumi, meaning to overcome the bhumi of the cloud of dharma. This is overcoming by a person who has seen the truth without abandoning this breath. For those who have abandoned breath, this is how the bhumis are overcome. When delusion ceases, the appearance of clusters of light is the eleventh bhumi, overcoming with all-illuminating light. Moreover, without attachment to that appearance, and without being stained by all inner and outer dharmas, this is the twelfth bhumi, overcoming the bhumi of the unattached lotus. From the heart of all beings, rays of wisdom shoot forth, and from the expanse of the sky, abiding in the manner of a wheel of five lights, this is the thirteenth bhumi, overcoming the bhumi of the great assembly wheel. Then, abiding in the appearance of wisdom, this is the fourteenth bhumi, overcoming the bhumi of great bliss. Then, gaining certainty in the spontaneously accomplished bhumi, this is the fifteenth (456) bhumi, overcoming the bhumi of samadhi. Then, with original purity, wisdom thoroughly arising, and above that there is no other bhumi, this is the sixteenth bhumi, overcoming the bhumi of the wisdom guru. Thus it is said. In the "Klong gsal," it says: A person who has seen the truth, from the first bhumi to the sixteenth, arises through gradual practice. In accordance with other schools, it is the way to obtain temporary qualities and results. Thus it is said. Secondly, in accordance with the common vehicle, it is called Buddha, because that aggregate body is coarse, therefore, with residue, immediately after abandoning it, one becomes a Buddha. All of the common vehicle consider the form body to have residue, and the dharma body to be without residue, therefore, they consider the residue of the form body to be like a fire that has consumed firewood, without residue in the state of the dharma body, and they consider nirvana to be based on this. Here also, it is said that the body with a certain degree of bardo liberation is abandoned and not taken.

These are terms labeled as with remainder and without remainder. Third, the signs of liberation in the bardo when that person passes away are: From the Great Secret of the Signs' Letters: The measure of light is that it appears as light. (457) The collection of bindus is that it appears as relics. The measure of wind is that there is sound from the outside. The measure of space is that the earth trembles. The measure of the body is that the body appears both inside and outside. These are also the qualities of awareness. Thus, having gained stability in clear light, when cremating or transporting the corpse, it appears with five-colored light. Having gained stability in the lamp, relics arise. Having gained stability in the five root life-winds, sound arises. Having gained measure in space, the earth trembles. Having gained a firm ground in the body, the body appears on the bones. Moreover, during cremation, a rainbow encircles the center of the cremation ground, blue smoke rises upwards, swirls to the right, the light of the fire is white and clear, without shaking, and the types of flames appear in the form of wheels, vajras, jewels, lotuses, swords, swastikas, utpala flowers, curved knives, and other hand implements, which is liberation without return. From the Tantra of the Heart Essence of Liberation by Entanglement: When he passes away, cremating the relics, (458) there will be signs of rainbows, light rays, firelight, and smoke. Certainly, five types of relics or one will arise. This is the sign of a yogi without return. Moreover, the five types of relics are from that very text: Vajra, jewel, lotus relics, relics of karma and thus-gone ones, flesh, blood, bones, limbs, and the five elements combine as a basis. Flesh śarīra and water śarīra, earth śarīra and fish śarīra, five śarīras and five-combined relics, these five types of relics are also the appearance of the body. These are the signs of obtaining the body. Therefore, with flesh as the basis, flesh śarīra, white, yellow, jewel relics appear, placed as the basis of truth. With blood as the basis, water śarīra, blue, vajra relics appear, because they are hard and solid, they are placed as vajra relics. With bone as the basis, earth śarīra, yellow, jewel relics appear, placed as the basis of the regent. With limbs as the basis, fish śarīra, green, karma relics appear, because they are extremely hard and solid, they are placed as karma relics. From the essence of the four elements, five śarīras arise.
