Sa. Therefore, I and (336) all beings must be liberated from the ocean of suffering in samsara. For this purpose, one must learn and practice only the virtues that lead to liberation. If this is not done, there will be no time to escape from the suffering of samsara in general, and in particular from the suffering of the three lower realms. Therefore, from today onwards, one must seize the path to liberation. Thinking that this precious human body, this rare and opportune boat, must be made meaningful, one should strive from the bottom of one's heart to cultivate the mind of abandoning and adopting samsara and nirvana, virtue and sin. Fourth, regarding the practice of impermanence, there are three points. The first is to contemplate the changes of the four external seasons and meditate on impermanence. The differences in the external seasons, from winter to spring, from spring to summer, from summer to autumn, change separately, just as days and months are impermanent. One's own life is also a sign of certain exhaustion. Meditate from the bottom of your heart, when will I die? The second is to rely on the changes of the four internal elements and meditate on the impermanence of one's own life. The age and youth of oneself and others, like the Soga flower, flourish for a while, but eventually decline and age, this source of disease and suffering. When will it disintegrate (337) and scatter, becoming the nature of the charnel ground? Think like this. The third is to contemplate the way the secret four elements dissolve and meditate on impermanence. Everything is momentarily impermanent and of the nature of destruction. Thinking about those who gradually grow old and weak. One cannot escape the law of death, and the end of birth is certainly the nature of death, when will it happen? From today is the last day to stay in this world, it must be the last time to be with friends, food, clothes and bedding. From oneself, contemplate the way the four elements dissolve, and from the bottom of one's heart, meditate on the unique impermanence. Fifth, regarding the practice of love and compassion, there are three points. The first is to cultivate love for sentient beings who do not have happiness. These sentient beings of the three realms and six classes are always tormented by the suffering of samsara and do not have happiness, how pitiful. There is not one who has not been my father and mother, when will these pitiful parents be liberated from samsara?

Thus, meditate from the depths of your heart. Second, compassion is to think of those tormented by suffering, wishing they could be free from it (338). For example, beings in the hell realms are tormented by heat, cold, hunger, and thirst; humans are tormented by the four rivers of birth, old age, sickness, and death; asuras are tormented by fighting and conflict; gods are tormented by the suffering of death, transference, and falling. Just focus on these scenes as if they were right in front of you. These sentient beings of the six realms, how pitiful! May they be liberated from the suffering of this illusory samsara right now, and may they reach the state of great bliss through my body, possessions, and roots of virtue. Meditate on this for a long time. Third, cultivating the mind of enlightenment is to aspire to attain the enlightenment of the Buddha. Like this, all sentient beings wandering in samsara have been experiencing various kinds of suffering from beginningless time. May I alone liberate all sentient beings, without exception, from samsara and establish them in the enlightenment of the Buddha. Make this aspiration, recite it in words, and dedicate the merit to sentient beings. In all actions, only think of benefiting sentient beings, without seeking anything else. Train your mind in this way. The necessity of these practices is twofold: temporarily, guru yoga opens the door of blessings, offering the mandala (339), gradually eliminates the karma of the two obscurations. By contemplating cause and effect, one can understand the truth of good and evil. By meditating on impermanence, one can generate renunciation and aversion, thereby freeing oneself from worldly affairs. By cultivating loving-kindness, compassion, and the mind of enlightenment, one can transform into the Mahayana path, and ultimately attain Buddhahood, which is its necessity. Second, the uncommon preliminaries, showing the true nature of the mind, have four points: distinguishing friend and foe, preceding purification of obscurations, settling into the natural state. The first point has three aspects, distinguishing friend and foe, which is to go to an empty valley where no one lives, offer a torma to the earth deities, and then make the aspiration: now, for the benefit of sentient beings, I will distinguish between samsara and nirvana. Visualize oneself as a vajra flame, practice guru yoga on the crown of the head. Remembering the various behaviors of the six realms of beings, remembering walking, sitting, jumping, running, and so on, finally remembering peace and wrath.
