He departed with a retinue of five hundred. At that time, four large silk banners were raised in the four directions, and they would travel when propelled by favorable winds. Four sheets of lead were hung in the four intermediate directions, and they would stop when there were unfavorable winds. Conch shells, pigeons, and crows were used to investigate mountains and aquatic monsters, and then killed. They were carried to identify the direction of their own country. The ship's ropes were cut, and driven by the timely wind, (36) the beautiful banners moved like a swan king going into the sky. After traveling for several days, they arrived at an island filled with various jewels. There, they settled the other retinue, and the king and the captain boarded a small boat and sailed for several days. They saw a white mountain and, upon asking, were told it was a silver mountain. Passing beyond that, they saw a blue mountain, the color resembling the clear sky, and upon asking, were told it was a lapis lazuli mountain. Passing beyond that, a yellow mountain appeared in the distance, and upon asking, they were told, "This is the golden mountain, the place we should go." When they arrived at the foot of that mountain, at the edge of the ground covered with golden sand, the captain said, "On top of the mountain, there is a pavilion built of seven kinds of jewels. At the door of that pavilion, there is a vajra pestle. Strike that door and convey the intention to seek jewels for the benefit of sentient beings, and then remain there without saying anything. Eight dragon daughters will come to (37) offer jewels, but do not say anything to them. After that, a beautiful dragon daughter will come to offer a jewel. At that moment, quickly cover her eyes with your clothes, carry her on your head, and leave." Following the captain's careful instructions, he went to the door of the jewel pavilion and knocked. After careful examination, the seven precious substances were loaded onto the ship in appropriate amounts, and the course was adjusted to come. On an island in the ocean, on top of a very beautiful lotus tree, a boy of about eight years old, who was very beautiful, pleasing to the eye, and adorned with marks and signs, was seen. The king went to him and said, (38) "Boy, who is your father? Who is your mother? What is your lineage? What is your name? What is your country? What is your food? What do you do here?" The boy replied, "My father is self-awareness Samantabhadra, my mother is Dharmadhatu Samantabhadri, my lineage is the non-duality of emptiness and awareness, my name is Padmasambhava, my country is the unborn Dharmadhatu, my food is dualistic appearance and conceptual thought, and I perform the activities of the Buddhas of the three times." The king was amazed and thought, "Since an emanation has been born, I should request him to be my son." So he said, "Please allow me to have you as my object of worship and my son." The boy agreed, saying, "So be it." Then the lotus tree was cut down, and the boy, along with the precious jewels, was surrounded by his retinue and went to the land of Oddiyana (around the 8th century AD, present-day Swat Valley in Pakistan). All the people of the palace and retinue gave a grand welcome, and then they went to the Vaidurya Palace. The king made a prayer, "If this jewel that I have found is a wish-fulfilling jewel, a great Samantabhadra jewel, then in this palace, there should be a throne and parasol of seven precious substances for this boy to reside in." (39) As soon as he said this, these things appeared. The prince resided there and was enthroned as king, and he was known as King Padma. This was because he was born from a lotus in an ocean island and for the sake of being enthroned as king. Then, the king prayed, "May a rain of jewels fall around my palace for seven days, and may the treasuries be even more filled than before." As soon as he said this, it happened as he wished. At that time, a large drum was beaten, and it was proclaimed in all directions, "King Indrabhuti, I am causing a great rain of wish-fulfillment from jewels, so whoever wants anything, take whatever you want!" After saying this, he hung the precious jewel on the top of the victory banner and made offerings.
