How did the first come about? By dissecting and examining the external and internal realms and the body into minute particles, it is not found, which is to realize the meaning of primordial emptiness (297), devoid of root. Second, by examining where it dwells now, it is not found, which is to realize that it is without basis or apprehension, devoid of grasping. Third, by examining where it will ultimately go, it is not found, which is to realize the meaning of the mind's absence of coming and going. Second, the preliminary practice of purifying obscurations through the three inner gates: Visualize A (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: A) at the crown of the head, SU (Tibetan, none, none, none) at the throat, NRI (Tibetan, none, none, none) at the heart, TRI (Tibetan, none, none, none) at the navel, PRE (Tibetan, none, none, none) at the secret place, and at the soles of the feet, like the thick smoke billowing from a drain clearing the accumulation of karma and habitual tendencies of the six realms. From OM (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: Om) at the crown of the head, AH (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: Ah) at the throat, and HUM (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: Hum) at the heart, flames blaze forth, burning away all the obscurations of the six syllables and habitual tendencies, and visualize the body as a crystal ball. Recite the melodious and prolonged song of OM AH HUM (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal meaning: Om Ah Hum) seven million times. Third, the preliminary practice of the secret three doors of body, speech, and mind, showing the nature of the three doors: generating the nature of shamatha in the continuum, introducing the nature of vipashyana, and familiarizing oneself with the nature of union. Among these three, the first also involves making the preliminary practices thorough, generating shamatha that has not arisen, and the actual practice of abiding, introducing what has arisen (298), and the way to practice it. Afterwards, there are three ways of viewing, mixing with conditions, and enhancing and training. The first is to lie down on a comfortable bed, with the body free from movement, speech free from utterance, and mind free from thoughts and conceptions, relaxing and letting go, and settling naturally into a state free from birth, thought, and conception. This will surely give rise to the meaning of shamatha, the mind free from elaboration. The second is the view of the Shravakas, with the seven-point posture of Vairochana, remaining in equipoise and becoming somewhat stable. And the view of the Bodhisattvas, fixing the eyes on the space in front, about an arrow's length away, so that awareness is clear and empty, shamatha without conceptualization, like the center of a sky completely pure, giving rise to wisdom free from elaboration, which is to recognize it. The third is, after becoming somewhat stable in that, the view of the wrathful deities. First, the stance of a warrior is to stand up, spread the legs, stare with wide eyes, and meditate on shamatha. Second, the fearful dance is to slowly take steps and mix it with shamatha. Third,

The lion's leap is this: Throwing the leaping, running, wild mind into negation and affirmation, and diligently practicing (299) the meaning of stillness, all conduct will surely appear as stillness. Second, introducing the nature of insight is threefold: generating the unborn with three preliminaries, introducing the born with three main practices, and enhancing and diligently practicing with three subsequent self-liberations. The first also has three parts: First, cutting off conceptual thoughts: Where is the actor of these three, body, speech, and mind? Where will they go in the past and future lives? From where do negation and affirmation arise? Through investigation, it is known to be the mind. Second, in the middle, searching for the flaws of the mind: Thus, are the mind and the three, body, speech, and mind, one or different? When joy and sorrow, pleasant and unpleasant, happiness and suffering arise, are the mind and these one or different? If they are one, then the mind should have color, because it is one with the body. If they are different, then where do they each reside? Through searching and examining, it is known that oneness and otherness are conceptual thoughts, thereby establishing that everything is fabricated and sudden. Third, finally examining the three places of origin, dwelling, and going: Thus, from where do the fabricated and sudden (300) mind arise, from the outer and inner world of container and contents? Does the mind arise from the mind itself? Thus, examine the mind. Examining the cause of arising, the place of dwelling, and the one who goes, it is known that the nature of dwelling is empty, and examining the place of going and the one who goes, it is known that the nature of self is empty, thereby determining that the mind is separated from the root of the three times, and a decisive realization arises like the rising sun. Second, the way to introduce what has arisen: Abiding appears as the adornment of the mind, radiating appears as the play of the mind, introducing abiding in the state of non-duality and equality, divided into three. The first is: Although the ways of appearing are diverse, look well at this mind that is not established in anything. Do the various appearances such as joy and sorrow exist apart from the mind? Are the awareness of negation and affirmation and its nature separate? In the awareness of whatever appears, in the state of non-grasping, look intently while uttering "PHAṬ" (藏文,梵文天城体स्फट,梵文罗马拟音phaṭ,汉语字面意思:啪), and then let go. Like the waves of the ocean subsiding, let the collection of thoughts naturally abide in the nature of reality.
