Accomplished. The ignorant call it "universal conceptualization." Strive for the means to abandon the state of great bliss. The waves that arise from the ocean of wisdom itself, Their essence is free from support, their nature is distinctly clear. The manner in which compassion pervades all sentient beings, Seeing this, the wise are completely liberated. The unobstructed skill of awareness, the various arising plans, Even qualities that are self-existent appear as faults. Alas! The mind that perverts the nature of existence, Is merely tainted by its own close attachment. The mind that naturally arises from its own nature, However it may arise, how can it not be accomplished? As soon as it arises, it is self-arisen and self-liberated. Not tainted by antidotes, there is nothing to abandon or transform. Original, natural, unmade, self-originated, In the naturally relaxed, primordially liberated Dharma, There is no binding or liberation, like a knot in the sky. The source of the confusion of abandoning and adopting is exhausted. Do not make a deliberate effort to grasp, let it be. Good and bad, accepting and rejecting, all are minds of proliferation. If there is deliberate grasping, then it is the very essence of wisdom. What need is there to meditate directly? Rest wherever it is comfortable (397). If there is grasping, it is the very cause of bondage. The box of dualistic grasping is unnecessary. Without negation or affirmation, abandoning or adopting, the various minds, Whatever arises, whatever it is, let it be enjoyed as it is. Everything is this, nothing is not this, the natural mind, The gates of various appearances are unobstructed, free from a basis, Without place or time, appearances are free from conceptualization. Empty and all-pervading, arising and ceasing without confusion, Do not taint the pure mind with grasping. That self-moving mind is the wisdom that pervades all. Unskilled and impure ones, in the dark room of night, Without letting the excellent horse go its own way, By transforming it themselves, they lose their way and suffer. The wise, by reversing this, Go wherever they wish, as they please. The unskilled children hold their minds, With the mind that the state of bliss is non-conceptual, the essence of emptiness, They bind the body, restrain speech, tighten the mind, and place it in equipoise. By reciting mantras, generating deities, and changing direction, They strive and exert themselves, thus wandering on the path of existence, There is no opportunity to be liberated from the state of samsara. The wise, whatever arises, the mind of awareness, Not grasping, not tainting, not transforming, letting it be, The ordinary (398) awareness, letting it self-liberate, The self-originated mind, the excellent horse of wisdom, Effortlessly goes to the state of great bliss. Alas! The ignorant ones!

When the mind is disheartened, Ordinary consciousness forcefully melts and subdues it. Alas! Such effort only binds one to samsara, There is no opportunity to be liberated from suffering. The waves that arise from the naturally pure ocean, Without rejection or acceptance, are liberated by the knowledge of their own nature. Friends, listen! The weapon of wisdom and discernment, Should be used to examine one's own mind in this way. The various movements, like the wind, are non-existent when examined. But contemplate this apparent unexamined state! Where does it reside now? From where did it first arise? Where will it ultimately go? Does it have color or shape? Is it visible when looked at? Can it be identified as "this"? Understand well, it transcends all memory and thought. From where did it not come? To where did it not go? Where does it not abide? The mind of various awarenesses, Though appearing unexamined, does a mind of appearance exist? Is its nature like a painted image, Or is it separately written as "rejection" or "acceptance"? Is there anyone who says, "That mind of rejection and acceptance is me, it is here" (399)? Consider your own imputation! There is nothing other than your own imputation. Even if it is imputed in that way, it is not the meaning of the imputation. Even if you impute cool water to hot fire, Can the fire actually turn into water? Is that manifestly possible? How can imputation change it into that meaning? There is no meaning that is not imputed, separate from that. Imputation and non-imputation are terms like dreams. Therefore, rejection and acceptance, enemies and friends, samsara and nirvana, all phenomena, Are merely imputations, they are not established in reality. Even saying "non-existent" is merely one's own imputation. In the meaning of imputation, there is no "this" that can be identified. Therefore, no matter what kind of rejection and acceptance arises, Contemplate it in that way, is it established in reality? Mistaking imputed phenomena for reality is delusion. Liberation comes from letting that deluded mind run its own course. That liberated mind was never bound before. On phenomena that do not exist, one distinguishes various subtle differences. Is there a distinguisher? Examine it with the weapon of wisdom! Alas! All beings have neither bondage nor liberation. With what is one bound? Is there anything to bind with? That mind that has never been bound has not even a particle of liberation. The six realms (400) are merely terms, merely imputations. Where does what revolve? Consider the one who revolves! There is no revolving one, no identifiable object. Devoid of color and shape, transcending faults and virtues, grasping and being grasped, Does such a mind have birth and death? The deathless mind that transcends all birth and death, Entering the realm of the bardo.
