Completely understand. Understand that Marpa's incarnate mind has transcended the thought of life and death. Thus, understanding the way things exist in their nature arises from recollection. By recollecting the lama, one gains mastery over the profound instructions. By recollecting the instructions, one gains mastery over the self-appearing dharmata of the bardo. By recollecting the view, one firmly establishes conviction in the unchanging. By recollecting meditation, one abides in the natural samadhi for five days. By recollecting conduct, one engages in pure wisdom as if meeting an old acquaintance. By recollecting the deity, one is liberated in the self-appearing, radiant mandala. By recollecting the place of birth, one breathes one's last breath in the realm of the self-existing nirmanakaya with the final faculties. Thereafter, having obtained the unfailing dharani and samadhi, one will certainly not regress in samsara. Then, when conviction in spontaneous accomplishment is obtained, the eight ways of dissolution (387) will occur: the eight ways of outward manifestation dissolve into the inner. That is, compassion outwardly manifested dissolves into inner compassion, like the rays of the setting sun. Similarly, wisdom dissolves into wisdom, like a child entering its mother's lap. Light dissolves into light, like a rainbow vanishing into the sky. Kaya dissolves into kaya, like the kaya of a vase. Non-duality dissolves into non-duality, like a river merging into a river. Exhaustion of extremes dissolves into exhaustion of extremes, like the space inside a vase dissolving into the great outer space when the vase breaks. All the appearances of the six impure realms of samsara dissolve into the gate of pure wisdom, like gathering the ropes of a tent. The gate of pure wisdom, the appearances of the nirmanakaya and sambhogakaya, dissolve into the dharmakaya, the great primordial purity, like a lion occupying a snow mountain. At that time, all appearances are called nirvana. Outward manifestation ceases, while inward manifestation exists subtly, like crystal light separated from sunlight, attaining buddhahood on the primordial ground, never to regress, abiding in the realization of the indivisibility of the three kayas (388). For the final faculties here, since they have not gained conviction in liberation therein, they will be born in the realm of the self-existing nirmanakaya by the blessing of the truth of dharmata. And for ordinary beings, the appearances of the existence bardo (srid pa bar do) will arise. Fourth, in the existence bardo (srid pa'i bar do), continuing the momentum of good karma is like channeling water into a pre-dug ditch.

Such instructions are like this: Thus, after the spontaneous appearances have subsided, in the bardo of existence, like the appearances of a dream, with complete faculties and endowed with magical powers, universally entering and accompanied by destruction. For as long as one remains in the bardo, the first half appears as forms and habitual patterns, and the latter half manifests the forms and appearances of where one will be born. If one is born as a god or a human, one will be adorned with a fathom-long white light and look upwards. If one is born as an asura or an animal, a yellow light will appear and one will look sideways. If one is born in hell or as a hungry ghost, a black light will appear and one will look downwards, thinking of going. Furthermore, when entering each place of birth, temples and gardens are the places of birth for gods. A wheel of light is for asuras. A misty sky is for ordinary human bodies. Among many people is a precious human body (389). A hole in the ground or a hut is for animals. An empty ravine and a dilapidated cave are for hungry ghosts. Dark, rainy weather is the place of birth for hells. At this time, among the three faculties, the best of the worst knows that the mother's womb, etc., are unreal, or prevents them with renunciation, and contemplates pure lands such as the Manifest Joy of the East. Thus, one will not enter the wombs of the six realms, but will be miraculously born from a lotus in a pure realm. The middling of the worst clearly visualizes the illusory generation stage, and some are liberated as yidam deities. In the womb dharma, within the source of dharma, clearly visualize on a lotus, sun, and moon, the seed syllables of the yidam such as ཨཱོྃ་(Tibetan, Devanagari: ओँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om), ཨཱཿ(Tibetan, Devanagari: आः, Romanized Sanskrit: āḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: Ah), ཧཱུྃ་(Tibetan, Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum), and then enter that consciousness. Visualize the parents as the yidam father and mother, and one will be born with a precious human body, always engaging in dharma. One will be born at the feet of a kind lama and spiritual friend, and thus encounter profound dharma. The worst of the worst prevents rebirth through refuge. At the time of those appearances, take refuge in the lama and the Three Jewels of the ten directions, and pray to be blessed to be born into a lineage that always engages in dharma. By reciting aspirations such as the "Excellent Conduct" (390) and remembering them with joy, one can turn away from bad rebirths and be born in the happy realms of the higher realms, among gods and humans. One will develop strong faith in the Three Jewels and thus be born into the practice of the dharma of liberation. These are for those who have died without having directly seen the meaning.
