From east to west, place one between every two directions. Three each in the east and west directions, and four in the north, totaling twelve. One each on the left and right sides of the southern entrance, and one at each of the four entrances. These are all placed in the nine clusters in the center of the lotus, which can be made into flower clusters or pigment heaps. The others should be made into lotuses and moon cushions. There is no further explanation in either the sutras or treatises. On the right side of the last cloth of Gyaton, arrange the ten directional guardians, the sun, and the moon, totaling twelve. It is desired that the same be arranged on the left side as well. It is desired that only the ten directional guardians be arranged in the intermediate directions, etc. On its right side, offer no less than seven offerings to each deity. On the east side of the mandala, place a vase filled with fragrant water, complete with ornaments and a vajra knot. The second part is the main practice: Sit comfortably on a seat and take refuge many times. Meditate that all phenomena are empty and selfless, and that all sentient beings who suffer because they do not realize this may have happiness and the cause of happiness; may they be free from suffering and the cause of suffering; may they never be separated from the happiness that is free from suffering; may they abide in equanimity, free from all attachment, aversion, closeness, and distance, which are the causes of happiness and suffering. Thus, meditate on the four immeasurable emptinesses, and for the benefit of all sentient beings, may I attain the state of perfect Buddhahood. For this purpose, I prostrate to and offer to the Sugata and his retinue, and make special prayers. Having generated the mind of enlightenment in this way, recite the ritual beginning with 'The truth of the Three Jewels'. The verses for invocation are from the Avadana of Magadha: 'With pure morality and excellent wisdom, With faithful essence, great Shravakas, For those who have no protector, I will be the refuge, Please come with compassion to accomplish the purpose.' And after reciting three shlokas such as 'The protector of all sentient beings without exception,' play music. After such an invocation, follow the ritual for clarification, etc. If the visualization is not clear, Gyaton says: 'It would be very good to depict the faces and hand gestures of the invoked deities.' After invoking in this way, descend from their respective pure lands through miraculous power into the sky, and come to the great four-sided, four-doored palace in front, made of various precious jewels, adorned with four horse supports, and completely perfect in all qualities. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
